Poor Performance

Hello all, in regards to my under performing ’86 41C.

1) - Has anyone ever heard of any performance issues because of spurs?

2) - Has anyone ever had to make any exhaust modifications to the factory mid-ship/side exhausts because of excessive backpressure? If so, what were your corrective actions?

I have never heard of spurs effectiving preformance.

As far as the side exhaust goes, I have seen boat builders change existing desgins on many parts of a boat to make it work better. With that saidit is possible you have a problem that started at the factory.

I would recomend that you find a sistership, and compare the preformance and the exhaust system. Measure the location and size of, the discharge outlet, the elbows, their radius, water injection point, and any other differance found should be examined and questioned.

I have, (see previous thread “1986 41 C Series II Poor Performance”) I’ve got a way different exhaust than the sistership that I mention in the thread. I can’t get a return call from the owner of the boat in regards to performance. I’m trying to have a solid plan in place to correct a backpressure issue. I also can’t seem to find any members with a boat like mine w/671’s to do comps with. I just know that at 2,000rpms I should be doing more than 14 -15kts. and so far the only suspect is my tiny 5 1/2" exhausts. Every other boat in my marina w/ 671's all have 7 1/2" outlets. They also all cruise at 21-22kts...I only top out at 21kts.
