I just realized I forgot to report on my experience with Pettit metal primer. This was discussed here last year but I could not find the thread.
Last October, Atlantic Yacht Basin repainted my antifouling with the usual Pettit Trinidad Pro and they said they could make it stick to the underwater metal if given a couple of coats of Petit metal primer first followed by two coats of the antifouling. I went for it, and on the way back north in May, I had them pull the boat for a bottom inspection. The hull looked good as I expected after only six months and a couple thousand miles, but the metal was something else. The props had some barnacles but the rest of the metal was badly coated. My opinion - not worth the time or cost. I did have a diver under the boat twice during the winter and he said all was good. I suspect he had his eyes closed. Anyway, AYB repainted another coat of Trinidad on the metal gratis.
