Here is an interesting story about that blue Viking color. There was an old guy on the coast named Peewee. He loved that blue color (similar to the blue on the 58) About 8 or 9 years ago he painted a 50ish foot Choy Lee sportfish, the entire thing in what became known as "PeeWee blue". Seriously, the entire boat! Anyway, he decided to get a new Viking and had a lot of custom things done. He had them paint the hull this Pee Wee blue and people loved it. Viking had tons of requests for that color and they started using it as a production color.

I can see it from where I'm sitting right now... Any questions anyone?? I got the scoop on her, my buddy takes care of it.

I have started to like the color after looking at it for the last three months. I have two other light blue painted hulls in my line of sight too....

Captned-can you fill us in on the history of the boat and a link to where we can see it on yw

Well the story is the guy just likes to buy older boats and fix them up. He got this one a year or two ago and just starting redoing her. He sent word to me if I would be interested in trading for my sport fish. I guess he just likes projects. ( no thanks, I got enough boat already.) He also has a 30 something foot old Chris Craft in a yard down here, just gutted it and started from scratch, its coming along nicely. He has another bigger boat and he wants to get rid of the Hatteras. I heard it will go for a low price. I havent been on her a while, I will try and catch my buddy onboard and give a good look and tell you how shes looking. I know he had a lot of engine work done and had them detailed, new paint on hull, new interior soft goods, etc.....

Cheers!

Well I called my buddy but no answer so I wandered over anyway. The blue paint on the aft spray rails is bubbling, the port side of the cabin house has been repainted but not the starboard side! Definitly will need some painting. Peeking inside the aft doors, the interior looks great with a large screen tv flush mounted into the back of the lower helm station. Foredeck and railings look ok. Decks felt sound... Going to need some work but has potential. Recently installed teak gunnel boards and new coming bolsters.

I'll try a get a better look inside...

If he's a friend, you might want to make the casual comment that if he's buying older boats to fix up and sell...unusual colors for the hull are a big no-no. Painting a boat any color you want is fine if you are going to be the owner for the next decade (or longer)...but honestly I suspect that a fresh paint job in the wrong color hurts value more than leaving it original with faded/bad paint. With faded/bad paint I might make a slightly low offer (like knock off half the cost of a respray) then either paint it or simply deal with it knowing I got a good price. With a bad color, even if its fresh...my offer would be low enough to cover a full respray. Just my thoughts, your mileage may vary.

How low do you think he will go? $100,000 or less? For 100,000, if everything else is decent...add in a $50-60,000 paint job and you have a very nice looking 58YF for $150-160,000...and THAT IS a good deal IMHO. But if he's going to sell for closer to the $150k mark, well then I'd prob keep looking.

One other thing, the listing says Engine(s): Detroit Engine(s) HP: 550hp Engine Model: 871 TI's

How did he get 550 from them? I thought all 871TIs were 425/435? Thats pretty incredible if true...

Hey Dave,

No, I never met the owner, I just know the guy who takes care of it. You would be surprised at the amount of light blue hulls down here in Miami. Probably a Latin thing! Ha! I'll ask about the engines and take a good look inside when I can. Looking at the brokers listing, it doesn't seem that he is very familar with our breed of yachts....

Cheers!

It's not interior soft goods, let's just say it wasn't hard to figure out which one it is on YW. It's also not a 58 Cockpit MY, but a Yachtfish.

I received a PM from a new member that says I was wrong about the boat mentioned in this thread being a 58 Yachtfisherman and not a 58 Cockpit MY. Am I right or wrong?

I got the same PM, but the blue boat is most definitely a 58 Yacht Fish. He/She is simply wrong and it seems like may be unfamiliar with our boats. . You can tell...if it has side-decks its a YF, if it is a "widebody" lacking side decks, then it is a CPMY. And look at this pic...

No side decks...its a YF no matter what the broker wants to call it.

Tom,
You are 100% right on. Unfortunately, some people need a little convincing. ;)

Yeah, always ncie to have the broker jump into the discussion and get it WRONG. Here's the email In got from him and my reply...

Might I suggest brucj=hing up on the different hatteras models a bit? You can find all the original brochures at http://www.hatterasowners.com/models.htm

StormChaser,
This boat is going to sell quickly due to price. If you can see beyond the brand new paint job, (at least all the prep was done) and it could be repainted for short money. This is not a Yachtfish, but a true Cockpit Motoryacht. I told one of your members about this because of the potential deal. If you want, contact me at: abyachts@cox.net - Alan Bernard
