OK the rain season of south florida is half way gone and in a few weeks I am going to to start my next project "touch up painting". I am attacking the small chips and blemishes only. I have been given my first bit of information from Ed at Sam's and he has given me the paint NO. that my 87 45C had been painted at the factory and where to buy it. The paint overall is in excellent condition once waxed it looks great. Ed also informed me that I should bring with me to the paint distributor a hatch or small piece of the current boat for shading and fadding so the new paint can be matched ever so close.

How do I prepare the surface to be painted?

What do I use to fill the small cracks and chips?

Do I brush on or spray on? I am told I can buy a small paint sprayer that is user friendly!

Is a sealer in this picture when I am done.

Thanks anything you can advise will be helpful.

alot depands on how big an area and what kind of paint you are using.

Imron can be buffed so you can blend it better. however awlgrip can not be buffed so you will have tape lines etc. scratches and chips, use artist brush. larger areas use detail paint gun or roll and tip.

Let us know what paint products you are using and exactly what repairs are to be made.

I am only talking about chips and stains nothing larger then a few inches square. Paint I was told from Ed at sams is 67766u Imron 025. What do I use to fill the chips and what sand paper would be best. Thanks Tom

prep scratches and chips with 220g, sand the scratch only not the surrounding surface. paint scratch with primer the top coat. paint will fill it in. you can then 400g 800g then 1000g wet sand it then polish.

dont use reducer in the paint so it will be thicker. of course you cant do this in blazing sun as it will dry too fast and clot up.

Well for fixing chips & scratches brush them and get them filled so that the paint it a little above level. Them you need to find a set of Meguiar's polishing blocks. They are a small block 2" x 3" that you soak in water till they sink and that is what you use too level it. They come in different grits I have 600, 1000 & 1500 these are solid so they only hit the highs when using regular paper you always break thru the surrounding edges! Then some fin compound and finesse- it. Now after you get good at it come do mine because I still have not fix all of mine .
