Painting saga about to begin

Jim...I think our Pompanette helm seats are cheap looking and don't hold up well. I was shocked how much they want for those vinyl, plywood, and stapeled cheaply made seats.

Jim

I have one of these

Its at the bottom Fl-1

The thing is on your bridge just like mine you can't have a wide chair become a real PITA to get around it. I like this one because it is also used as a leaning post.

And don't use a prevail for more than a scratch just buy a gun out of harbor freight and it will work much better and you can get a touch up gun for small jobs. I would still use a full size gun for the top 2-3 passes and its covered!

So when are we going to see some pictures.

Good idea. I already have an air compressor, I can bring the box home and paint it in the garage. Don't know why I didn't think of that.... inhaling too much AwlGrip, probably.

And here's kudos to those folks who provided moral support and suggestions; I appreciate all the ideas, many of which I would NOT have thought of myself, for the paintwork on my boat. I am grateful to all the commenters on this thread. Does she look new? No, honestly, probably not. But she isn't new- she's a forty-one year old boat which looked shabby, but now looks like a nice forty-one year old boat that someone cares about. The approximate total cost of this work in dollars was about two thousand. I think it probably would have cost around ten to twelve thousand to have it done by someone else. It took me eleven weeks of work on my time off and days off. Incidentally, the above figure includes three months rent of a covered shed slip at PNYH, which was the best investment ever in this. This job would have been impossible without the boat being under cover.

I am away for a few days and expect to be back Saturday evening. With a bit of luck, we'll move her back to her home slip Sunday or Monday, and I will now get to do some boating. It's not too late in the year for that.

Blue Note moved back to her home slip yesterday; thanks to MikeP for helping. Later on I went over and washed her, which of course made it rain buckets. She looks good. Thanks to all to helped and encouraged. As soon as we have some sunshine over here, I will post photos. New helm seat arrived yesterday, up for install on first free day. And, it turns out that the deck box is gelcoat, so I may be able to buff it out instead of having to AwlGrip it. But, if I have to paint it, I know how to do it.
