Hatteras Model
54' MOTOR YACHT (1985 - 1988)
OK I'm stumped. I thought this was a mount pin for standing the folded Marquipt boarding ladder along the rail so it could be tied off. Am I right? And what's the "technical name", not my "Ouch D*** IT"What Is it.webp

It is an original ladder storage pin.
Don't know of a real or most correct name for it.
My friend has two sets of these on his toe rails.
Neither of his ladders fit them.

I believe some offset tabs are needed on the ladder since the hand rail stanchions prevent a straight line mount of the ladders.

Marquipt just calls it a ladder stowage kit

Thanks to both of you for responding. The only reason I figured out as much as I had was because another boat in the marina had their spare boarding ladder set on their pins. Interestingly, it was a Gulfstream, not a Hatteras, but I am sure Hat didn't have a monopoly on Marquipt boarding ladders. PO of our boat had discarded the Marquipt ladder in favor of another one, and had bolted brand-specific brackets to the outside of the toerail on the starboard side. Somehow I managed to kick one or more of these whenever working in the vicinity, usually while barefoot.

I have a set of those brackets if anyone needs them. I took them off of my boat years ago. I stow the stairs behind the sofa. I can't stand having a bunch of stuff mounted all over on deck.

How heavy are the stairs ?

New 8 step Marquipt non teak treads stairs are 85lbs.

Just picked up a used 8 steps at Sailorman for $1850 in great condition. Had to replace the 18 year old Tracy’s which were becoming wobbly on the 116. They re about 80/90 lbs or so. One trick to make them easier to set up and remove is to tie a line around the top step so 1 person can use the line to lift them in place while a second person puts the pins. If you have a flip handrail you can even tie the line to the rail and then put the pins in solo.

Pascal that's humorous, I didn't remember the brand of the steps until you posted - They were Tracys, and the mangled pieces were found in the dock wreckage after the hurricane.

For some reason Tracy’s have a 3/4” spacer between the frames and the steps which increases the leverage on the bolts. Poor design. The Marquipts steps extend all the way to the frames with a thin plastic washer. Easier on the bolts

You should have seen my DIY rebuild on the Tracys with new wheels, new bolts, etc.
