hi guys, i got a 52c sport fish with 8v92s. does anyone know if the oil pan can be removed with the motors in place? seems like i need another 1" of clearance to be able to remove them. Any input would be great.

can not. just tried to get mine out and sand blast and paint it was impossible. Had to jack up both engines while the turbos were off. It was done during rebuild. Even then it was a scrape

Have done inframes on a 52 but the pan stayed in the bilge.

that is fine i dont mind leaving the pan in the bilge, but i can't even get the pan dropped to the bilge. any special technique to dropping it? There is a cross member a couple inches below the pan and i can't figure out to maneuver it.

There is no cross member under the engine in mine, mine is a 1989. Does the pan move at all. Is it broken loose from the engine block. Is it rattling at all. We broke it aluse with a rubber mallet. Is it that you can not move it at all or can not rotate it. Seems we had to move mine one sided and rotate it eaven with the engine lifted a little. Getting it entirely out was a jigsaw at best

The pans can be real difficult to break loose. Make sure all the bolts going into the flywheel housing are out. A number of putty knives usually get it to let go. I have the center beam on my 46 and can't get out but can wiggle it around enought to do the mains.

I got it broken free but there is a cross member that is a couple inches below the pan. The cross member is right around where the oil pan changes shape. (The dip in oil pan). I feel like if I had a couple inches to work I could drop it to the bilge. I'll try to get pics when I go today.

You need to remove the oil pickup, then the pan should slide back with the front of the pan sits on the cross beam. You may also need to remove the regulator and relief valves as well.
I use some of the long bolts to hold the pan in place while I have my hands in there. The rail is razor sharp.

Hi, see attached pic for reference to the cross member. captddis, even if i remove the oil pic up, i can't slide the pan back before i lower the front. The bell house is behind and prevents me from moving the pan back.

Edit: I dont know why it posts the pic so many times.
