  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1968 - 1975)
After 2 years of having her yesterday was the day. Since getting the Taylor Made I have only been able to troll arround at hull speed. If i tried to run her any harder the port motor would overheat. When i got her she had been sitting for 6 years and I could just not stand to see her rotting away. Also a previous electrical fire in the salon had left a few items to deal with. This winter I finally dug in to the heat exchangers. They were the aluminum tank low profile set up on 8v71n. When i removed the heat exchanger core from the tank the problem finally revealed itself. There was a 1/2 inch x12 hole in the baffle that forces the coolant through the heat exchanger core. Now i needed 1 if not 2 low profile heat exchanger tanks. Perkins diesel to the rescue. They had the tanks in a cast iron version and i learned that they were the same heat exchangers as on a 8v53. I spent the winter replacing both port and stbd with hoses etc. Fri the diver came out and cleaned her up and sat was the day. The crew showed up and to the Chesapeake bay we headed. We came out the Lynhaven inlet and it was time. Throttles foward a little smoke and up on plane . The exhaust cleared up immediately clean water no haze temps holding at 170 looking good. We spent the next 2 hours driving from Cape Henry to the first island on the chesapeake bay bridge tunnel to chicks beach dodging rain. (victory laps) We ran her at 2000 to 2380WOT she seemed to like 2100 with the temps staying at 170 even at wot. She reached a top speed of 17.5 knots and cruised at 15.5 knots. It felt so nice getting to work the detroits like they were meant to be.

Sounds like she is running great and ready to go for the summer. Nice work !
