I'm about to leave the marina, driving to DC to HOPEFULLY get a new passport issued while I wait.
I was supposed to go back to Mexico a week ago but the day before my flight I discovered that my passport had expired several weeks after arriving here in late April.
After several panic sessions and much cursing I found out that a regional passport office (there's one in DC) is supposed to be able to issue a passport immediately if you have proof of international travel within less than 2 weeks. The first opening for an appointment to do so was this morning. Of course I had to cancel my Jun 17 airline reservation and now have one for this Sat.
Here's hoping the gov can actually deliver on the "immediate" issue thing. I'd really hate to extend my stay again. Though I guess there are worse things than being "stuck" in ones own country.
