Hi All
Anyone have experience with a transmission coupler on ZF gears? The small vibration turned shaking which I hoped was the cutlass after zincs slid back wasn't the issue. Looks like it's the rubber coupler or the ZF gear/trans itself. Mechanic said he would look at it next week but it doesn't look/sound good...
I'm off to look in the trans filter to see if there is metal and I was told to look in an inspection plate where I will be able to see the rubber "doughnut" coupler. Either way, looks like the trans has to be pulled back

If you can push the shaft back enough to get the gear off it shouldn't be that bad of a job. I would get some penetrating oil and spray the motor mount and coupling bolts and nuts and let them start soaking. Might save your mechanic some time.

I think you mean the rubber block drive which is in the ZF gear

A little good news
My mechanic who is a master ZF guru told me a few things to check. He is in FL but will come to the rescue next week.
He had me take off the screen on the top of the bell housing & check the rubber coupler. Looks perfect.
Next, he had me take our 4 bolts and inspect the internal filter. It had some junk on it which appeared to be minimal metallic grit and then what appeared to be a fiber type of material. I took a photo and sent it to him. He called minutes later and after a full description, he said it was actually good news considering. He said the "shuddering" at mid through high speed is the clutch/pressure plates slipping. The good news is that the oil pressure and temp is perfect so he said I'm lucky that I backed off & limped home because if I didn't, I would have seriously cooked everything. The best part is that he said he can replace the plates without taking everything apart. Apparently he can get the old plates out & the new back in by removing a couple of inspection covers & it is a one day job. WHEW!! I'll get some photos of the operation

That's good news. Sorta like getting shot at and missed, or a tax refund.

Can you pass along ZF guys Info ?Always good to put into the contact book
Thanks
