Hatteras Model
74' COCKPIT MY (1995 - 1999)
The Northstar6100i unit on the bridge of my 74 is not powering on properly. It is the slave unit to the one in my pilothouse and I use it primarily as the radar display on my bridge. I also use it to control my pilot on the bridge but that can easily be changed to use the newer Garmin I have on the bridge. So, hoping to preserve my radar display, is there anything else I get get to display the radar taken from the lower Nstar unit? Max no longer repairs these units and Ebay is a crapshoot. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

I do not have any suggestions for you regarding a product change. What I can tell you is that when my Northstar 957 started crapping out and they could no longer be repaired I bought replacement/donor units on eBay from highly rated sellers and that strategy has worked for me and kept my helm center piece running with spare parts still in “inventory”. One of the reasons that I did not upgrade is the unique hole for the 957 and the restrictive nature of the install in the helm. Not only that but I still like the operation of the unit. In your case an upgrade may be an easier choice.

Thanks George. I thought it sprung back to life this a.m. only to find that it did not. The symptom is simple. After shutting it off, it then starts an intermittent beeping. This can only be stopped by removing the power cord, letting it sit for a while, then reinserting it. I guess Ebay is where to go next.

John, A friend of mine has a running take off 6000i that he will sell. It was on a beautiful 2003 boat that only had an inside helm. I'll ask him what he wants for it and let you know.

Thanks but I am looking for a 6100i.

Or go forward and get current gear.

It's not as expensive as many think and you might as well enjoy the boat with the new gear now instead of waiting for the old stuff to let you down.

Try Marine Electronics of the Outer Banks in Nags Head. Probably the power switch trace. Howard can fix these.

Thank you. It does seem like the on off power button issue.

Just to come full circle, it turns out my local electronics fellow had one that I now have installed. I have sent Howard an email at MEOB to find out how much it costs to repair the old unit to keep it as a spare. Jim mentioned the power trace issue? Is the fix to just install a simple on/off switch in the power line to the unit? If so, that is easy enough to do myself.

I think it's more complex than that. You might just call MEOB and ask them. On mine, they had to add another switch, but it has worked fine ever since.

I spoke with them and will be shipping it to them in a week or two.
