Hatteras Model
42' LRC - Mark II (1980 - 1985)
Okay, I sold my 43DC and am now looking for a 42/48LRC. If someone wants to buy a boat that is in storage in cold country, how does it work? You can't survey and sea trial until spring?
May seem like a silly question, but I don't understand how it would work.

Thanks,
Roger

In storage? Is that indoor (heated or cold) or on the hard outside? If indoor, survey can be done. But obviously sea trial has to wait. BTW- the water is still liquid and many boats still in the water. Not a big deal to splash a boat right now (indoor or outdoor storage)... Typically what happens is the seller lists in the fall once boat is on hard. That gives him 6 months to find offers and backup offers. If things go sideways with the first offer in the spring, they move on to the next offer. Saw that happen with 3 boats this past spring. Buyers wanted a retrade, sellers declined, sold to next buyer for more money. When the initial Buyers came back they couldn't believe boats sold. That will be my strategy when the day comes. List it early Spring, take back up offers and hope the first contract falls out. Buyer strategy might be to put big escrow down contingent upon sea trial. Do the survey now, then sea trial on spring. Make your contract refundable until survey, then hard money unless boat doesn't hit rpm #s or bad compression or other serious sea trial item. Affective lay holds the boat through winter for you. Just $0.02 from a guy that's sold 2 boats during the winter layup in the Great Recession... (Not a broker, but definitely used one).

When I bought my Hatt I had it surveyed, seatrialed, made the offer and motored it to home port in December. I''m in CT.
