What are the options for lettering material for a boat name on the transom and what are the pro's / cons of each type? I am wondering about what product can be applied to the original factory paint (Imron) and stand up to waxing, light-compounding, fading, ease of installation, longevity, relative cost, quality, etc.

The boat has a name (in my thoughts) just not on the transom.

I used squeeze on vinyl lettering with gold leaf from a vendor at a boat show. The dark red in the logo fades after about 4 years and has been replaced and you have to hand wax around it or the edges start coming up. Other than that the basic letters have been on for 13 years and still look good. I designed the logo in power point and transferred the file electronically to the vendor.

I used Boatus lettering for my name and it went on easy and looks great. You can wax and buff them with no problem. You can select from hundreds of fonts and combinations of shadows and colors. I'm very happy with the results.

George, I am pretty sure you should post that awesome image also in the "Transom Shots" thread under Everthing Else.

I also used vinyl, reflective, looks good and great in the dark.

I'll show you tomorrow. I'm having the name replaced at noon. Engine turned 22kt gold leaf on vinyl. I'll take pics and post it.

Last boat I had the name done in Awlgrip and it was great. Not so sure the new owner likes it.
I have had a couple gold leaf names, but they need peridoc recoats of awlgrip clear.
I have vinyl now and it should be good for 8 years in the FL sun.

Is the sun in Florida different than here in the northeast??

Much much worse.

The NE sun is arrogant and rude. The Florida sun is friendly.

And the great Lakes sun is missing half the year.

Part of the reason that solar energy is not the same everywhere.
