Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
Hello everyone, my wife & I are the brand new owners of a 1968 34c.
I look forward to learning alot from this site & am excited to join the ranks
of Hatteras owners! Our boat was found on the Ohio river in Kentucky/Indiana
& we look forward to bringing her home to the Chespeake Bay, MD. Thank you all for such a great site to learn about our new boat. Ever since I fished a
Hatteras out of Key West, I have wanted to own one. Wow what a feeling!
The boat has a pair of detroit 4v53's & coming from a gas boat owner, that is very intimidating. If anyone has any advice, I would certainly appreciate it,
& take it to heart. We are very excited to own this classic vessel & are grateful to be able to take her home to saltwater. Please e-mail me @
fatbuoy@msn.com & I will be glad to e-mail pictures/ info to share our new
boat. Thanks again, & I look forward to hearing from you soon!
Bruce :)

Congratulations and welcome aboard. May you and yours have many happy years aboard your Hatt. Post pictures if you can. I'd like to see her.

Congrats ..... we are still looking for ours .... driving to Fl tomorrow from Mich.
to look at several. Enlighten me please ... what is the trip route you will be taking to Md?

Congratulations! Maybe you could post some of those pictures here for all to see. If you need help with that, just do a search about posting pictures. I have started using www.photobucket.com after someone here suggested it. I found that photobucket makes things pretty easy.

Congrats and welcome the 34C is a GREAT boat ( well o.k that's also because I own one too :D ) There are a quite a few 34 owners here so when you need help just ask. I don't have detroits but plenty of people here do and know them well!!! Was it fresh water all its Life?

Congrats on your 34. I just bought a 1964 34 Sportcruiser and have started her refit. The fly bridge is going back on today!

The DD 4-53's are pretty good engines. They are a bit small for the 34. They are an older design that only produce about 140 hp @ 2,800 rmp. Like most diesels, they are reliable as long as you take care of them. Depending on how they have been run and cared for you can expect up to 3,000 hours of service from them before you will need to rebuild or replace with something newer.

You may want to look to the 6-92TA (550 hp) or the Cummins 330b (315 hp) for replacements. There are many other power options such as Yanmar and Cat. It just depends on what you want to do with your boat and how much money you want to spend.

Welcome!

Congratulations! You'll love the boat. We bought our 1965 34 Sedan a few months ago in MD. and cruised her down on her own bottom to her new home in Miami. Ours is powered by a pair of Chrysler 440's, great running engines. Ours needs paint but we haven't stopped having fun long enough to do it :p

enjoy!

LOL! Hey, you can come visit us when it gets to cold up there. Heck I have to go further south myself in January and February!

And congrats on the new Hat, you will have a blast!

LOL, Bruce - Putting 6-92's in a 34 is a great idea - if you're going to enter the boat in Poker Runs :D

Seriously, welcome to the forum. Going from gas to diesel can be intimidating. I had 454's in my Wellcraft and thought they were big, then moved to 6-71's. Wow, big jump . I knew nothing of diesels 4 years ago, and now thanks to this forum and another called www.boatdiesel.com , I can handle most routine maintenace and trouble shooting on my own.

Enjoy!

Take it slow and read up on so many of the relevant threads here. Enjoy. You've got plenty of company.
