With full fuel tanks, empty waste and water tanks, the lower part (bottom) of my exhaust ports are about 1 inch below water level leaving the top of the ports about 6 inches out of the water.

Mine's the same as EZ2BME..... And the pic of the bucket... Another reason to live in Florida....

And it was rough to say "nice things" about Randy... But we're dealing with a new Hatt owner.. he'll find out about Freebird soon enough......

Good to know that Randy still does the Goose thing. :D

Welcome to the family- having been in your shoes about 5.5 years ago, I know how you feel. As you can see, the HOF is a great place for knowledge sharing. Find someone in your marina who has a Hatteras or similar boat and can serve as an informal mentor to you. Someone you can go to with questions when you have that "am I about to screw something up" feeling. You'll continue to have questions and frustrations, as you interface with these amazingly complex systems. It's overwhelming at first, then as time goes by, empowering as you begin to learn each system and figure out how to do each task.

I also recommend keeping a meticulous log of everything you do- including some "process notes." That has helped me to remember not only when I did stuff but for things I don't do every day, how to do them the next time, including what products (e.g. paints, varnishes, filters) I used. Take pictures of complex stuff before you take something apart so you have a visual of "what went where."

I could ramble on but will stop there. It's an honor to be a steward of these wonder vessels. Enjoy, and we look forward to hearing of your experience.

It's a Tenna Sea thing, so you wouldn't understand. :)

I'm guessing he used buckets to plug his exhaust ports for winter storage.

Forget the buckets use footballs. Better seal and no one in tenna sea has any real need for them anyway.

Tim you obviously have not hung out with the Bird so let me Educate you

First off Randy is not much of a Beer drinker and if he has ONE it won't be a Miller.

Second he is not much of a Drinker but a Goose and some Can-berry will work.

Third he is a little bit of a light weight!

I am referring to his Drinking and only his drinking :D

How did I do LOL.

By the way Randy earned the name of the "grey goose fairy "fair no by drinking it but by bringing a bottle, having a drink or two to and leaving it in the freezer. He knows he is always welcome at my boat or my home. I have 4 freezers by the way Randy.

Thanks to the folks at FLL Sams, I found my owners manual. In with the spares, I found a grey plastic case, like a typewriter case, and inside was the owners manual. It's a great resource. On eBay, I found a V71 operators and service manual, and on the web, service, operator, and parts manuals for the Genny. Depco pump is a great resource. Boatdiesel is a good blog spot, although it is subscription. They folks at my local NAPA have been a good resource. And the best resource by far is Sams, and this Hatteras blog spot! If you are near Lenior City, drop by!

I apologize for butting in here... but I'm confused by the third picture in the OP. is that a piece of a plastic bucket bonded to the hull??? What am I missing here!

I put them in my exhaust everytime I leave the boat to keep the muskrats out. They have been known to eat through exhaust hoses and sink boats or just leave a bunch of crap in your exhaust like shells.

Correct! :) Vermin (also known as varmit and varmint) control. We river dwellers have large muskrats that like to nest in exhaust ports.

Regarding the exhaust relative to the water. When mine is full of fuel the ports are 3/4 full of water. Tanks empty the water comes up an inch.

My experience as well. Sounds to be normal. Thanks for the input!

It's called a Vermin (or varmit depending on your preference) control. Keeps large muskrats from crawling inside the exhaust ports and making a mess of things. :)
