  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
58' YACHT FISHERMAN (1970 - 1981)
At Yachts Miami Beach, I finally got the opportunity to step aboard the New Hatteras 70 Motor Yacht. WOW! WOW! Double WOW!!

If you carefully study the profile model below, Hatteras did EVERYTHING RIGHT! And I do mean EVERYTHING! From functional overall design to the fully functional aft deck, to the easy access platform, to the easy access bridge and stateroom areas...It would take me an hour to point out every feature...

Also...unlike the "euro" designs, the open layout of the new Hatteras 70 blows away every other design out there... American-Style Comfort...instead of a bunch of tiny cubby holes. And then...when you look at the quality and finish, (in my opinion) there is not a finer boat or layout in this entire category...

Hatteras DID THINK OF EVERYTHING! The New Hatteras 70 is a winner for the few lucky owners who will be able to appreciate one. I can't come up with enough superlatives!

More looks inside the New Hatteras 70 Motor Yacht... The placement and overall design of the "County Kitchen" dining area kicks every other design to the curb...

Everywhere you looked...it was Hatteras Quality throughout.

I was fortunate enough to spend some time onboard hull #1 and I agree wholeheartedly! The problem they have is lack of stock, nobody wants to wait 12-18 months for a boat anymore and Hatteras is not producing spec boats. I Hope for the sake of my friends still employed there that a bunch of orders come from the show....

Even though the new Hatteras 70 is available with an on-deck master arrangement instead of the "Country Kitchen"...the lower deck master layout felt VERY comfortable...

I'm a boat guy...and I thought the new Hatteras 70 is unquestionably the best in it's class, in every respect.

I'm not just being Hatteras prejudiced here...I boarded the Viking 75, the Sea Ray 65, a San Lorenzo 75, and an Azimut all in the same class in order to make a comparison the same day. The Viking was a nice quality boat but cramped feeling in every cabin. The others from Sea Ray on down were all crappy by comparison in both design and quality details. Oh...And one more picture...of a supposed Motor Yacht that I thought was the ugliest boat at the show this year...

Well aside from a Van Dutch...

I love the Hatteras 70 and agree with you that the other one is definitely ugly.

We just boarded the 100. Unbelievable.

OMG how ugly.

My first hatteras was 35 years old when I bought it. Maybe I can get one of these wham they at 35. Or maybe not. I'll be 105

I hate to tell you this but the battery switches will need to be replaced because they are still using the same model. They must have over stocked on those suckers.

But I still like it. :)

Edit: Outwardly it reminds me of the Johnson Pascal was on.

Nonparise, you don't need to wait 35 years... I'm sure Hatteras will sell you one now. Oh, I guess I forget one pesky detail $$$$$$$$ lol. Seriously I agree with all the comments about it. It is absolutely beautiful. Too bad the same basic look isn't available in about 50 ft or so. We can only hope but I think Hatteras is back on track with their designs. I'm sure we all wish them the best success.

Love to see that second boat get hit with a beam sea. As long as I'm not on board.

That boat didn't get hit with the ugly stick- someone dropped the entire tree on her. Appalling.

Jim, glad to see you did not hold back.

I agree with Paul. the boat is stunning. I was on her Saturday and the salon/dining area/ solarium is a winner. Fit and finish was outstanding. I don't prefer the enclosed bridge, but the main deck and stateroom areas are very well done. Also, 2 washer dryers, one in the stateroom area and the other in the crew quarters off of the swim platform. Very smart. Engine room was well laid out and accessible. Wood work is hatteras quality. At almost $6mil it was more than some of the others, but a seasoned boater/yachtsman would see the construction excels. They have a winner here, and perhaps if they get a few orders Hatteras would hire up to make the delivery times more acceptable.

Jim, glad to see you did not hold back.

You know, everyone has certain things that just frost them totally. Mine are windows on boats in the hull side- not portlights, which are okay, but WINDOWS, which are usually glued into the hull side. And when people put those fake chrome wheel well trims on vintage Mercedes, just because a few really high-end Mercedes had them, back in the 60s and 70s when they were built. Now they stick them on any 280SL or SE that's for sale, and claim they were original. Nonsense. I saw those cars as new and NONE of them had that crap on them.

We're all nuts about something, right?

With regard to the windows: #1 they are ugly #2 I think they affect hull integrity #3 sooner or later they WILL leak #4 hit with a big enough beam sea, they will blow out. Of course, if the boat never goes anywhere and is just used for drinking and having parties, ok, fine. But they are still ugly.

Great to see hatteras producing a boat with a decent aft deck, side decks and a good sized swim platform ... it s about time. Good looking boat

Great layout too, 4 guest plus crew in a 70 footer is nice but it looks like the Er is crowded, I guess that's the price you pay for the 4+1 layout.

I don't mind the hull windows, on a Hatteras or quality builder... they ve been around for a while now... on lesser builders... it another story. A client of mine had a 59 Carver Marquis where clearly Carver had tried to save a few bucks with sealant...

Couple of minor gripes... 300 gallons water for a boat that size is low... 400 is a minimum, better upgrade te watermaker size...

The rub rail it too high... many docks have pilings that don't extend that high. It should have been lower.

That side boarding gate appears to open outward. That's a pita... sooner or later it will get caught open on a dock or piling. Should open inward. Just saw a sunseeker nearly loose his yesteraday at staniel Cay when the boat moved a foot on current change and it was hitting a piling.

Fuel burn seems high according to one test I saw, obviously the upside is that the boat is probably a wave crusher

I hope it's a start of a trend for hatteras...

It really looks much bigger than 70' in the pictures.

But I don't get it, a 70 foot and only a fly bridge wheelhouse? So one has to get the enclosed bridge option to stay out of the weather?

The new Hatteras 70 is huge inside and out. The beam is 21 feet! The enclosed bridge as shown at the show is a $395,000 optional extra. I happen to prefer the open bridge. She weighs 155,000 pounds. I think the new Hatteras 70 is just perfect the way she is. All I need is the Powerball Jackpot!

Pascal, the engine room is actually quite spacious. I am 6'1 and 200lbs and had no trouble moving around the outboard sides of the Cats. As far as the enclosed bride goes, I would save the $395 and be very happy piloting with the curtains up in bad weather. The bridge is spacious. It is a HUGE boat for its 70 feet. We came off the Sunseeker 75 and were stunned at how much bigger the Hat felt.

Saw it as well, gorgeous although I really really want a 70gt

LOA is listed as 74 so she s really the same size as th sunseeker. European boats typically have less beam, 20/21' is pretty standard for a US (or Far East) that size so they feel much smaller.

I ve grown to love enclosed flybridges. Less hassles with enclosures, no leaks, , better air con, less noise underway. When anchored it s nice to be closer to the water on the aft deck instead of going to be going up and down stairs Personal preference obviously
