I guess what kills me is when i see new auto commercials that say thier product get lets say 26mph on the highway but sill has a 400hp engine in it and it hauls ass. WTF why not have the same car with a low performance engine that gets 40mpg, we are all sold on power and performance,,now tell me where it is needed......................................I am still waiting ..............................answer is it is not needed, it is cool but not needed. in cases like this i am for gov regulation. areas where we cant controll our selves need regulation and tight regulation.

ok mars is getting warmer too. Did we cause that? This is all beyond our control. Thoward is right that the last time we had a warming trend we wern't here to cause it. This is a natural climatic condition. The same people now claiming we have emergency were saying in the 60s that global cooling was an emergency. Al gore uses 20 times more energy at his house than the typical American.Do I fault him for that? Not if he can afford it just as I don't fault any of you guys using fuel in our boats. There are answers for us to get off the middle east dole however ethanol is not the answer. Biodiesel can sure put a dent in this however and made from alge instead of corn. Take a look at a site called oilge. 50 times more yield than from corn. If only the govt would put money into this instead of the corn lobby, we could actually make some progress along with mandating at least 50% of cars come with diesel engines instead of gas. Talk about an immediate reduction in fuel. Look at the UNH study done re: diesel cars. OK now my no comment is back.

Sorry the site is oilgae

Okay, who gets to decide what is acceptable? How will you feel about it when the decision maker determines that your boat is "out of control" and you shouldn't be allowed to have it. I've seen how government works and trust me the less of it, the better.

Oh, BTW, I do fault Al Gore. He wants us to live with his elitist, arrogant rulemaking. But he not only doesn't do it himself, he actually wastes more than the people he blames for the world's ills! The hypocrisy is beyond belief, and this guy wants to be president. Pass!

We dont know why the earth warmed and cooled over the billions of years, earth today is not the same place. You are dreaming if you do not believe we are the cause of todays warming. You do not have to be a scientist to see the changes and to see the shear numbers of high co2 emmitting machines etc. There is absulutely no way that this could not be causing a huge amount of harm, and in am only talking about the machines, there are other large sources such a the huge world population growth etc etc etc.

Emissions standards have improved ourboard motor performance by a very large margin. I see nothing wrong with gov requiring the rest of the marine industry to do the same.

I don't fault Gore for using the resourses he can afford however I do agree his use while telling others to conserve is hipopcricy of the highest order and NO I would never vote for him or anyone of his ilk. I just used him as an example of someone who can afford to use energy like we do on our boats. Nothing wrong with that, however I'm not going to tell anyone what they can and cannot use energy wise and neither should the govt.

Before you go blaming us for CO2 in the atmosphere you better go check on how CO2 is sequestered in the oceans in the form of carbonates.

Once you do that, if you understand equilibrium reactions (and the fact that we've not a snowball's chance in hell of influencing the ones involved in this to a material degree) you will get just a bit more sober about all this stuff.

I could go on, but that's a good start.

Mother earth will take care of it. When the heat causes the flow of the Gulf Stream to change more south we will go back toward an Ice Age......

Without gov intervention I do not see how we will see major change. If a company could come out with a commercial diesel vehicle that gets good MPG I think they would see a good following. I would love to get 15 diesel HHRs for my wifes company.

Com'on PooBah, I was wondering how long it would take you to get in on this, dive in and tell us what you really think! As you can see it's really a sloooow day at the office.

a few months ago, one of the hollywod high school drop out bimbos went on a campaign to promote electrical cars... apparently she had been using one for a couple of years and thought it was the solution to global warming, pollution, etc... she was bragging on how great it was to come home and just plug the car in...

problem is that the next link on the cnn page was about power outages in california !

we are being held hostage by a small group of environmentalist who dont' understand that money coudl be better spent improving existing technology like nuclear or diesel instead of spending millions and billions on gimmicks.

When I was a youngster in school - mid 50's - it was common knowledge and stated by all sorts of scientific experts that nuclear power would make electricity so cheap it would be almost free. We had people from the Government nuclear power agency - whatever it was called then - at our school. They made a big point of also ridiculing how the views of "the past" were silly.

This just goes to show that any idea that we NOW believe is the best way to do anything is equally silly. In 50 years whatever our ideas are now will look silly to the folks around then...as will whatever THEY think 50 years later.

We are NO smarter than anyone else has ever been; we just think we are (as has everyone throughout history).

al the bore is a complete moron and hypocrite. His junk science is nausiating, come on, if the polar caps on Mars are melting from ncreased 'solar' radiation, what effect do you think the sun has on our planet? We are extremely close to the sun compared to Mars. These liberal wackos, want all of 'us' to live in mud huts, ride bicycles, use electric cars, eat tofu while they ride around in limos and Gulfstream private jets, and have multiple, enormous houses. I say let Darwin do his job. The last big volcanic eruption released more greenhouse gases than 'MAN' has since the beginning of time. I say to these wierdos, if you want to side with the French, then move there, otherwise shut up. Al Gore is a liar.

speaking of Diesel... i'm watching the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans which, although it's french, is the greatest endurance race... both top teams (Audi and Peugeot) are running diesels, Audi having won last year already.

a clear sign that diesel is no longer about slow, sluggish, truck like, noisy, shaky, smelly and smoky oil burners...

I'm the engineer currently doing the development (design) of the full scale prototype of this gadget for the inventor. He's a tree surgeon, and got the idea from watching trees wave in the wind.
I changed the mechanical systems enough that they no longer resemble the cartoon, and have less than 1/4 the parts count. Anyone capable of building a boat trailer should be able to build one when I'm finished. There are patent issues involved, so all that crap will take some time.
We'll see.........

Mars has not atmosphere as far as i know so I would suspect solar flairs would heat it up. If we are destroying our atmosphere and or changing its properties too quickly then would it not be reasonable that the same solar flairs are heating the earth as well.

I know there has been a lot of junk science in the past that was directed to sway public opinion, juries etc. case in point look at the junk science that ruined one of the greatest inventions of man kind..............silicone breast implants. The juries ate it up and destroyed the industry and made a lot of cocroach tort attorneys very very rich. also i remember adds on tv in the 70's stating that if the whole world was made of oil that it would only last and i cant remember the exact figure but say 50 yrs or 100yrs. well we know that was bull, also we were suposed to be completely out of oil witin 20yrs, well that did not happen. All that aside, i do believe we are causing the current environmental issues, we cant pretend nothing is happening because it is.

Years ago VW made the diesel Rabbit and small pickup with a non turbo that got up to 50mpg. Today these rusted out old units are tough to find and worth a lot more than their gas powered counterparts. The technology is available but the manufacturers don't see a market in this country. If you ask people they say they want fuel mileage but then they buy the 400 hp 26 mpg car. Mercedes has new clean exhaust technology and it is available in a Jeep diesel. You can't buy one in Massachusetts because new Diesel cars have been outlawed by our legislators. (They of course know what is better for us than we do)
First thing we need to do is get rid of the all knowing politicians. Then address the problems.

Just venting, Fred

We have reduced our emissions greatly here in the US, go overseas and see how much they pollute in comparison, you will be shocked. We have 300 million people, the chinese and indians have 1.3 billion each=2,600,000,000. There is no way you can convince me that "we" are the problem, yes we contribute to the problem, but with slash and burn cultivation in the 3rd world, and with just 2 countries having 8 times the number of humans we have, all of which burn some type of fuel for cooking, generating power, and transportation they make a bigger problem than we do. Al should go there and convince "them" to clean up their act. Al is an opportunist that panders to "so called intellectuals", mostly who just want to feel good about themselves so they think voting for a boob like Al is contributing to a solution, but in reality, they still consume more than the average American, ride around in their behemouth SUVs, yachts, and live in a McMansion while feeling superior to the common man. I say "tear down these McMansions", ride the bus, and stop consuming luxury goods, then come talk to me. Actions speak louder than words, otherwise Al and anyone who is like him are liars and hypocrites. The generation that was against the 'establishment' has failed completely to change anything in our world, they as a group are the largest and worst compared to what came before them, and in fact continue to claim the moral high ground, but have actually done nothing to carry out their lofty goals of making the world a better place. They are the destroyers. Talk will not change those facts, only actions can. Give back your ill gotten gains from being a wall street raider. Just because you have a tie dyed shirt hanging in the closet and read mother earth news does not absolve you of your lifetime of sins consuming and polluting with the best of them. They were against the establishment, now they 'are' the establshment.

"The generation that was against the 'establishment' has failed completely to change anything in our world, they as a group are the largest and worst compared to what came before them"

As a member of that generation, who came of age in the 1960's, I completely agree. Although I was essentially on the opposite side of the mid/late 60's Peace/love movement (I was one of those "baby killers" in Vietnam), much of the protest against the establishment seemed right at the time.

But it all went badly awry as it was probably doomed to do from the beginning. You can't legislate common sense and you can't change human nature. Let's face it, we here are a good example - most of us operate boats that probably pollute more in a day than a new car does in it's lifetime. I don't know that we can throw many stones at anyone unless we are willing to also give up these Hatts and other energy "hogs" that we may love. Frankly, I am not willing to do so and won't until/unless the government takes them away from me.

But remember, in the mid 70's performance cars were DEAD. They were gone, never to return because of the price of gas and insurance. Now, we produce the fastest road cars that have ever been made. And nobody REALLY cares about the price of gas. Everything is cyclical...

Heck, as far as I can tell, after 61 years of being here, there's little that can be done on this train except to ride along, see where it goes, try to enjoy the sights, and get off gracefully when our stop shows up. :)

Mike that is an eloquent statement.
I live in reality land also. LOL

Unlike the koolaid drinkers, I served my country, risked my life numerous times, and made many sacrifices. After finally reaching some success, it seems everyone else seems to know what better to do with my money than I do. I am sick of the crap that goes on in Washington. Everything done since the 70s has been a complete failure. The war on poverty, after several TRILLION dollars, everything is WORSE than when we started. The war on drugs, after several TRILLION dollars, and the militarization of the police, drugs are more pervasive and available than when we started. I could go on, but just look at any government program and they are all failures. I want some accountability, and neither the Democrats nor the Republicans are capable of giving it to us. Time for a change.

We don't have an energy policy. They just continue to slice the pork in DC, we are getting screwed and they are laughing all the way to the bank. We taxpayers are getting sold out and we won't wake up until the coffers are completely empty. Ethenol is "NOT" the answer, neither is hydrogen, fuel cells, windmills or any of the other hair brained, feel good ideas. We will spend billions and still not have anything to show for it.

We can get there with diesel engines and blue/green algea, but now we have "states" legislating against the one viable power plant for personal transportation.

One acre of land and a closed algea system is capable of producing 15,000 gallons of bio-diesel, compare that to growing corn. By the way just wait and see what happens to food prices, since all the critters we eat, are fed corn. Get your wallet out.

price of corn is out of site. it is already happening. want to bet the gov is still paying farmers to plow under?

I understand that China has just passed the US up as the planets biggest CO2 producer, so big Al's report is already out of date. I never saw his entire program just about the last half of it but he does make good points, valid who knows. Not planning to vote for him. I want to vote for Hillary because she will be the best for .............for........for........reviving the material for Saturday Night Live and for making the careers for many a stand up comedian. Guess that is about the only thing she will be good for.
