I'm redoing the aft shower on our 1966 50' Yacht Fisherman. I'm going to put new wall covering (fiberglass wall board) over the bulkheads in the shower stall. Over the years, previous owners had installed several different wall covering materials, all look very bad. I have stripped off the first layer of wall cover, some type of vinyl material and am down to what I think is the original layer. This is kind of like an archeological dig... The 'original' material is under the porthole ring. I have removed the screws from the porthole. Does anyone know how they come out? Mine are elongated ovals. I think they are bronze or very hard aluminum. I believe the outside of the port hole is the 'beauty' ring and that the major part has to come out from the inside. Am I right? If so I thought of tapping heavy gauge putty knifes under the inside edge to see if I can break it loose. I want to get it out without damaging the port hole. They look very expensive! Anyone have experience with this?
