My exterior doors have a cool looking lock mechanism, however, the latch part has nothing to grab hold of. I called Sams marine, and they sent me some strike plates. However, on the strike plate side, there is a metal channel that has nothing to do with strike plates. I tried to make a few pieces to get into the metal challel to attack the strike plate but it has to be positioned just right because the latch has a small field of travel. Anyone solved this problem?

It locks the handle internally. Not a deadbolt.

Sam's can get the key, I'm waiting on one now.

You’re missing the strike plate. Photo below. Sams has them under door locks.

My local ace sells the blank key, maybe try there?

Use a crayon to mark the latch "finger" so you can see where it strikes the metal channel. Crayon or something else that would transfer and leave a mark. Use that as a reference to dremel out an opening. If the strike plate fits, that would give you a good latch so you can actually lock the doors. Ours had the strike plates, and latches, but no keys. I found possible replacement door locks on Amazon - I emailed you the link I think - but marking the impact point in that metal channel would give you a place to cut an opening.

From what I can see in the first pic it appears that the cutout is covered or filled in.
I had to shim out my strike plate to make it lockable.
