Yeah, most serious Hatt guys can't figure out what it is as far as models go, and nobody every guesses her age.QUOTE]
She is a very nice example of what an early 41 can be, but that comment surprises me. You must have meant REGULAR Hatt guys, certainly not SERIOUS Hatt guys! I could easily identify it as a 1965 or earlier simply due to the curved windshield that was only made through 1965. The rounded edges of the salon windows identify it as a pre-1966 as well. In 1966 they changed the windshield and windows to hard angles and in 1967 they went to rectangular portholes (instead of the older rounded design) from then on. They also added another 100 gallons fuel capacity in 1967 but nobody can "see" that!
Okay tech boy! The main factor in confusing the SERIOUS Hatt guys is the enclosure, the wing doors, the glassed in front area with bow seating which replaced the original forward windshield, and the angles of the forward windows in the salon are different than the original. I have an original 1965 factory brochure with pictures that would render my boat virtually unrecognizable as being the same boat! It sure is funny to see those old hairdos and clothes, and BTW, Mr Expert, did you know these things came with record players for music entertainment?
Hate to burst your bubble on ANOTHER point, but the change to the hard angled windshield actually took place mid '65 when the DC became a TC. There were actually two distinctly different 41's in '65. Truth is, I didn't know that either until I helped another member get a wiring diagram for his '65 41DC. I had told him to call Hatteras for one, but they informed him they made two 41's in 1965, and he wasn't sure which one he had because he couldn't find his hull number. I called Hatteras to clarify things, and that's when they told me about the confusion with his prior conversation with them. BTW your welcome Akin.
One other difference you failed to mention had to do with construction. The 41DC was much heavier in construction than the 41TC and was lovingly referred to as an "icebreaker". This sucker is built like a tank. I tried to drill through the deck to install a davit bracket and bottomed out the bit without going through!
Oh well, sorry for the history lesson, and, oh yeah....thanks for the compliments!
