Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1969 -1977)
I have a 1977 series one 36c and recently lost the baffles in my starboard muffler. Before I start crawling around back there or cutting has anyone been down this road and know what the direct replacement muffler is? The boat is a factory diesel model and I would like to have the new one on hand before the saw comes out.

Mike.....I replaced mine with a direct replacement I found. Centek/Vernatone is vaguely familiar......Those suckers were big and long! Gonna have to look thru some files to see if I can find exact part number. I removed mine via enlarging the holes in the engine room rear bulkhead. I saved the half moon pieces i cut out and re-glassed them back in when I was done so the stainless "collar" was re-useable. I was also able to get some loooong 1/4 drive extensions to remove the hose clamps over top the the fuel tanks.

Dont get me wrong....it's a major PITA...but it can be done without cutting the cockpit in any way!

Call SAMs. When I changed mine on my 46C Steve knew exactly what I had and needed. It was 10 years ago but I do believe they were Vernatones. Give Slane marine a call. They are in the process of repowering 2 36's. Tom may have some suggestions for replacements or upgrades.
