Discovered a potential problem when my 1975 36c was pulled last fall. The mechanic who was going to winterize the boat noticed a polished spot on both shafts when the boat was in the sling. He said that's not good which is not what you want to hear. The mechanic said the engines are probably flexing/moving on the mounts. He felt they were definately out of spec.
The boat was repowered with twin 502 gas power 10 years ago before I owned the boat. Not sure if new mounts were used for the re-power. The polished area on the shafts is around 1-2 inches in length. Definately some movement taking place. Is there an acceptable amount of movement? If not, what is the procedure for fixing and what type of cost? The mechanic said when we launch in the spring he will watch when I put the boat in gear to see whats happening. Never had any performance issues or vibrations when running the boat. Was surprised when he discovered the problem.
