Several years back I bought my wife a vacuum cleaner for mothers day. It had all the cool attachments, was bright red, high power. This thing I thought was a great tool.

After all, be it birthday, fathers day or Christmas if I got a new power tool, I was one happy guy.

This does not relate well to the wives/mothers. And since that time I have learned if it has a cord, it better not be a gift, no matter what the occasion.

If it has a cord, it is a household necessity, and therefore does not in any way justify itself as a gift. I am reminded of this at least 3 times a year.

So for those who have not learned this lesson, or may be having a relapse, run to the store, buy her some bling bling, a gift certificate to a nice clothing store, some flowers etc...........

But do not buy anything for her......if it has a cord !!

I made the same mistake about 2 yrs into the marriage... That will NEVER happen again.

On the other hand, SHE forgot our anniversary one year so I have a "Get out of Jail Free" card for life... And we are on year 37 now...

deja-vu, I got a really nice set of sheets for the bed one year, bad gift...... and no cord. I guess a gift certificate is the best.... Over 50 and still learning

Ok guys..from the "receivers perspective"....we gals want "girly" gifts. As I do remind my hubby often. "Domestic gifts" do not count! He made that mistake too. Good thing he has nice taste in jewelry, it always saves him! :D

Jewelry is out, all nice pieces seem to fall overboard or get busted or lost. I suggest Mario's Timex, good idea?

Or, I had my eye on a really nice cordLESS DeWalt hammer drill.............

Bling Bling !!

Works every time :D

Rick,

Kate might just be the exception here ;)

I told Becky one time I bought her a new Dewalt drill for me to use.......

Another trip for bling bling soon followed

My wife's birthday is usually within a few days of mothers day. One year I gave her 3 gals of paint, Glaze, sponges and rollers for both holidays and I even helped he paint our room. We did a great job and she loved it. I know many of you may think I didn't get away with this but she is a very practical wife and understands the value of our spending that time together.

Another year I did get her a tennis bracelet and she almost never wears it. I guess the paint was a good present.

This year I will be traveling mothers day so we are celebrating both her Bday and MD on the following weekend at the boat. All are welcome. I think I will buy her a blender so she can have frozen Margaritas.

One year in the 90's I bought her "The Thone" which is a seat that fits onto a 5 gal bucket for her to use in the CC we had at the time. :p

Our daughter's mouth just dropped to the floor while the wife cracked up laughting.

OH, I did have a real gift, but she did also use The Throne out in the boat...

No Cords? Well, what if the cord is yellow, and carries 50 amps? :D

Well I suppose if the cord comes with a boat attached it would be OK :D

Moms Still Want Same Gifts For Mother's Day
Flowers, Greeting Cards Are Most Preferred Gifts

POSTED: 4:30 am PDT May 9, 2007

No idea what to buy this Mother's Day? Turns out dear old mom's tastes haven't changed that much.

The tried-and-true flowers or greeting card are mother's most preferred gifts, followed by a dinner out, an annual survey by Discover Card reports. But watch out ladies, more men than women plan to purchase a gift for mom, and the guys aim to spend an average of $73.80, besting women by about $15.

"Men tend to buy more jewelry and take their moms out for special dinners," said Margo Georgiadis of Discover.

Don't get your hopes up, though, mothers-in-law; men plan to shell out only about $50 for you. And you may not find an ally in your daughter, either, as husbands will fork over a generous $90.70 for them.

In the end, it's the thought that counts. Half of the mothers surveyed said they don't need their loved ones to spend anything, saying the best gifts are handmade or thoughtful gestures from the heart.

If you still screw up, don't fret: 60 percent of moms wouldn't exchange, return or re-gift a present they didn't like. Why do you think she still has that macaroni necklace you made her in third grade?

More than 1,000 adults participated in the online survey in late April.

Funny, I was just on ebay thinking about buying my Admiral a new Garmin 3210.

Does the "no cord" rule apply to something like this?

Have a happy day Ladies!

One Christmas I got the wife a painting of the boat!!! Is that a domestic gift because it seems like I got away with it. Beside she has plenty of bling bling!!!
Scott I know Chris would like a new blender`sounds like a good Idea to me. Just don't forget to buy the Ingredients also don't want her to think your cheap :D

I think I will get Marti the blender for Mothers day and include the ingredients with it. For her B-Day I will probably get her a Gift Certificate for a spa or a store she likes. Usually one I like too.

In my case, I had the perfect solution to this age old problem. I got rid of the wife. I've been happy and content ever since.

Scott - hey buddy, you have more guts than I have - a blender, WOW!!
I wasn't sure if 'The General' would prefer a new deer rifle or that Delta table saw I was admiring - decisions, decisions!! Maybe just a new Weed Eater and a pair of safety glasses.

Hey I helper her paint our room one year. I keep her expectations low so I am never too far out.

She is the one who would use the blender so I believe its a good gift. Right?
