I was doing a moisture check on the top of my sundeck hard top and found my moisture meter showed moisture broadly across the outer surface. This is a balsa cored structure that had some soft wood when I bought it 6 years ago, but that was corrected. The puzzle comes from the readings on the underside of the sundeck.... all dry. Does any one know if hatteras ever included some sort of screen or foil behind these flat surfaces? I seem to recall seeing they imbedded something for SSB systems but have no record of it in my manual.

I have a wire mesh in the entire hardtop on my boat. I didn't know it was there until I pulled the headliner down. Then I could see it embedded in the glass. But, this mesh is below the coring, nearer the underside than the top side.

Yes I think the metal was a counterpoise(sp?) for the old VHF AM radios...... Pat

The copper mesh is a ground plane, if you look in the bridge storage area you should find a stud for connecting the ground plane wire. Works very well for SSB radios.
