Hatteras Model
58' YACHT FISHERMAN (1970 - 1981)
3 Cheers for Miami! In spite of still being spread out at too many locations, The Miami International Boat Show was EXCELLENT! The Water Taxi Services between locations in near perfect weather was the cherry on top! The new Super Yacht display near the Turning Basin at the Port of Miami can only grow next year. What a better Super Yacht location than Miami?? Kudos Miami. I thought I'd share a few images... Including the approach to the Yacht and Brokerage Show in Miami Beach. The All New Hatteras 70 Motor Yacht on display, and the photo on top, spotted only briefly at the Rickenbacker Causeway Bridge...

How many 400hp outboards does one need?

The New Super Yacht Dock at the Port of Miami was THE Perfect Location! Check out this first year display, and especially look at SILVER FAST!

...And there's more to come...

Here is an interesting comparison observation. Check out the 75' Hatteras 2000 Motor Yacht, BEACH BUM, as opposed to a 2015 Sea Ray 50ft Day Boat. Both were priced around $1 Million at the show. Which boat is a better all around value?

I went aboard Beach Bum. It was super clean and had a stunningly plush new interior. I was also kind of surprised that there were so many late model Hatteras 80 series for sale at the show.

Just a couple more...

The incredible Miami Skyline. A grand old lady from a previous era. ...And just in case you'd like to become the Benevolent Dictator of a Small Caribbean Island Nation... Check out the former Coast Guard Cutter that also had a "for sale" sign in the window this week in Miami. If the takeover is successful, you tell your new legislature that you purchased it New...and pocket the change. If your coup is defeated, you are only out the cost of a "pre-owned" strike force!

The last photo is "Sea Tabby" a 61' Mathis/Trumpy built in 1938. Her owner is a notable Miami Beach builder/developer to whom I sold her in 2012. Along with her Captain (who I hired) she is experiencing excellent stewardship and continues to be maintained in near perfect condition. She is the subject of many a photo op. Thanks for the photo Paul!

ThAnks for sharing these Paul. It was great to see your shots as I sit here in frigid 7 degree Boston. I was able to go a the year before last and was dying to get back there this year but between work and kids it was not to be. Thanks again for warming me up a little!

Beach Bum or Beach House?

No doubt which one I'd take home if somebody handed me a million bucks and said I had to purchase one or the other. Please tell me that middle boat in your first post isn't the new Hatt you mentioned.

Eaven you know that it will take about 5 to 6 mil to own that one. Did you see the 5 / 400 hp outboards i would liked to know what they were pushing.Thats more hp than my hat. Fuel burn and fuel capacity got to be a concern.

I was talking about a million for the used Hatt vs the used Sea Ray. You couldn't buy that outboard powered boat for a million bucks. Remember the million dollar Whaler we saw last year?

Oh yeah, if that's the boat I think it is, it's a Nortech that will run 100 MPH with those Mercs.

Yes i will never forget what a fooling i got that day... Wonder what one would do with a boat like that except run drugs. To excensive to hall women around, to many motors in the way to fish.I bet its fast but it will not out run them motorallors. But i guess when i was younger i would have given it a whirl and not looked back not once.....Did you get the Hillary e mail?

I remember Sea Tabby from a family cruise in 1974 to Watch Hill RI. The Capt gave me tips on varnishing. I asked who the owner was and all I got was mister "K"

Yes. Charles Karagheusian owned Sea Tabby from 1945 until his death in 1977. "Mr. K" was a very well known yachtsman up and down the East Coast.

Pictures you are showing are from the Yachts Miami Beach show http://www.showmanagement.com/miami_boat_show/event/
not the Miami Boat Show.http://www.miamiboatshow.com/ which was a disaster of epic proportions.
Docks were narrow and hard to walk on to see the boats as people congregated as you would expect, but made it difficult to walk and see boats.Food offerings was pathetic and awful, the lavatories stunk and some were closed when we needed them, water was $4/bottle, and it took us close to two hours to get the water taxi back to the Hyatt Hotel
The yacht show on the other hand was good as usual if not better as everyone was confused. Food offerings were excellent as I had a shrimp Cesar salad

I never did get to the Virginia Key Site. I did think the "in water" location was superior to the Convention Center. Miami has many political challenges to get it running correctly. This was the first year for the Miami Marine Stadium site. I hope the Super Yacht show gave them an indication on how underutilized the Miami waterfront has become to the yachting community.

Here's another picture of the Trumpy/Mathis. She's beautiful.

And yes, one of the photos on top is the new Hatteras 70. The more time I spent around it, the more I appreciated it. I thought the design was sensible compared to others. However, I thought the interior was "cold" and "cheezy" feeling. Hatteras' interior designer needs to be lost at sea!

Yes.... but I always cringe at a clear finish wood transom.... all that upkeep just for a woodgrain butt... just seems unnecessary since the boat looks so nice anyway.
