  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
60' MOTOR YACHT (1987 - 1989)
After being gone from the boat for a week, got back to the boat this evening, and there was a loud tone coming from the master stateroom radio. I was able to isolate the tone by using the breakers. It's only coming from that radio. It sounds like a warning horn at the radio itself whether it is turned on or off. It is definitely not coming from the speakers. The 12V converters for that radio and the radio at the pilothouse Helm are located behind the helm steering wheel. So it's definitely from the radio itself. Has anybody had that problem and know how to solve it other than turning the breaker off? Or even what it is? We never use that radio, but unfortunately, the pilot house radio is on the same breaker and we use that one all the time.

What do you mean by radio? A car stereo ? If you never use it, just disconnect it…

Sorry, I should’ve clarified. It’s the original AM/FM cassette radio. We don’t use it and I had planned to pull it out and put a Fusion radio in its place but I’d like to know why it’s ringing.

I ve seen that when radio or amplifiers go bad, sending a ringing/humming to the speakers

Scott to the rescue again. He diagnosed the problem. He said it was tinnitus. Thanks again, Scott for the help!
