  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
I have a 7 step Marquipt boarding ladder that is missing the foldable handrail. By chance would any of you have a used one you would care to part with. If not, suggestions other that Marquipt themselves. Thanks in advance.

Very easy to make yourself. I have a seven step model that I made a left and right handrail from one inch SS tubing as posts with teak as the top rail. I know that Marquipt offers them as well but with alum tubes and it's no big deal to make and they look great and you have a lot fun doing the job, besides you don't have to take a mortgage out to pay for them. I made two 45 deg. bends in each of the stainless steel tubes in order to get enough width between the hand rails. I don't know how to post pictures but I will take a few and give them to my grandson so he can post them for me.

A buddy of mine made one for a seven step. He ordered the corners out of Australia. This way you can fold the rails up very similar to the Marquipt. If I can't find one I may go that direction. Thanks for your reply.

Very cleaver, Thanks I may go this route definitely cheaper way to go and the wood rail does look gorgeous.

Indeed! I think they want close to 300 for a new aluminum rail so you would be ahead for sure!

"Screws and Nuts galvanized" here here! We know how to deal with that! Maybe get that piece of teak from Ron for a handrail? Here's a link to a tube hinge if you were to use just tube. http://boat.net.nz/product/tube-hinge-25mm/ I'll be darned if I could find these in the USA.

Those guys are very proud of the piece. I may have to go that route unless it sells first. I will have to polish it to mirror finish. Hope to see you this weekend. I have a few projects to work on.

You can really save some $ if you or one of your friends has a couple of old broken antennas. The fold down swivel can be modified to work very nicely with very little machining. By the way if you're just doing this in order to sell the steps, I wouldn't bother...you won't get much more with the handrail, and the labor is not worth it except when you do it for yourself. As you know everything you buy for a boat is expensive but it's just the opposite when you look to sell anything. Most buyers of used parts are bottom feeders so don't expect much.
