It is my understanding that NC, along with many other states, do not have any real standards for a person to become a Marine Surveyor. One surveyor I saw today mentioned a class/books at "SAMS" ( I believe that is what he called it ) ( Not this Sams ) and also mentioned about 5k.

But he was pretty vague , or I just did not understand.

I am interested in venturing into this field ( on a limited basis for now ). So if any one has any good scoop for me, I would appreciate the help.

Paul,

The link for the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors is:http://www.marinesurvey.org/index2.html

I would be willing to bet that with your knowledge, not much would get past you on a survey! ;)

Paul, if you want to chat with a certified surveyor, I would suggest Robin is a great guy and certified surveyor based in the UK, he stays busy around the globe with his business.

No BS and very frank, he holds the same certification's that a US surveyor should hold.

Thanx for the links, I will be following up on them for sure.

I always get calls from surveyors wanting prices and opinions so kinda feel like, why not just do this myself.

Paul,

all your freinds are so delighted you are finally seeking an education! LOL!
I had started to pursue this a few years ago but other interests dominated.

Here's a link to a well known surveyor and a wealth of info on the subject:

Here's a well known survey school. I visited it several years ago. Certainly goes by a reputible name:

I've no doubt that you would "breeze" through the subject matter and get certified in a timely manner. This is right down your alley. Hell you can even come practice on my boat! :D

Keep us posted!

Sorry I forgot to mention they don't cover such relavent subject as bees and things! :D

One of the issues we ran in to was the surveyor can not repair the boat and survey it. It is either or......
