Does anyone know if PAR/Jabsco still make the large brass-cylinder manual bilge pump that used to be fitted to Hatteras Yachts way back when? I have one, but the piston is frozen in the cylinder. PAR still make a smaller version of this, but if I am going to replace it, I would like to get the largest one, which was OEM to the boat. Not that I plan to use it in the near future, but I don't like having things on the boat that don't work. Any information appreciated. Today being a holiday, I can't reach Jabsco to find out. PAR, incidentally, stands for Peters & Russell, the original makers of the pump, if anyone's interested......

(I found this out by having unexpectedly to clean out the locker between the head compartment and the stateroom. There was an unopened plastic gallon bottle of CarQuest antifreeze which sprung a leak from the bottom of the plastic bottle. Fortunately it was still sealed at the top; the vacuum at the top of the bottle created by the leak held it back a bit. I have never seen one of these bottles leak on its own before. While I was in the locker I decided to see if the pump would still move and it didn't, so now I am looking for its replacement.)

When you take it out soak it in coke (regular not diet) for 24 hours. I got 25 cents that says it will free it up. It will still need to be rebuilt but I do believe you can still get parts from jabsco.

Good Luck:cool:

When I did the redo on my fwd head, I removed the "original" non-functioning manual pump, filled the holes and eliminated the discharge line which was T'd in to the sink drain. Even if it worked, I could not imagine the future circumstance in which it would have ever been used.

Well, if I take it out, then I have holes to fill, hoses to remove, etc. I'd just rather have it there, if for no other reason than there's a manual way to strip the bilge if I ever want it.

Hmmmm,... the one on mine is plastic. No way of saying if it's original of course.

It freed up, but I decided to get a new one and bought a Bosworth Guzzler which I installed today. It takes up less room, seems to fit fine, and if I need to rebuild it, I can. Don't laugh- the antique Jabsco is going on eBay. Genuine nautical antique.....

I have the same one in my 36C. Will go out tonight and see if it works. I have been looking at it for 3 and 1/2 years thinking I will get to it one day.
