Seriously, can cacade really be used to clean the cooling system instead of the recommended flushing stuff, whatever it’s called? It seems like it would be a whole lot easier and cheaper.

I wouldn't be concerned Ang. Its fiberglass. No biggie.

Traveller - there is an OFFICIAL recommendation for using Calgon for getting OIL out of the cooling system in the manuals....

Yea I remember reading that. That’s recommended for getting the oil out if the oil cooler springs a leak or some other nasty thing. I’m asking about the cleaning and flushing that’s required annually or biennially. Do you think Calgon or Cascade will be as effective as the recommended stuff? :o

I don't know on the fresh water side.

On that side it shouldn't have to be screwed with so long as the coolant/water mixture (or water+SCAs) are maintained within limits.

It's my understanding that some recommended flushes require a second flush with a "neutralizer", then a fresh water flush, an additional step in the process. if Cascade followed by fresh water gets it seems you're ahead of the game.
