Mike- come on down and talk with Mike W on this...

MikeP, can you post a picture of the tranny guage(s) showing how they are installed? Thanks.

Talked to Mike W down the way and also talked to the folks at Acadian. They wanted to know the tranny pressures in gear before making any suggestions so I told them I'd check it out this weekend when my wife is back on the boat. I don't want to trust the dock lines/cleats to hold the boat in gear at 1800 RPM and I sure don't want to go out alone and be in the eng room checking pressures with no one at the helm.

Here's a pic of the gauge/start button set and the correct connection for the tranny at the selector lever. The tranny gauge hose is the stainless fitting coming in from the left of the pic.

Mike, thanks very much for posting the pics.

You're welcome!

I did the pressure checks in gear and then talked to Acadian - Brian said the pressures sounded fine and that the issue was insufficient volume with the hydreco pump, caused by old seals. He explained that this was verified by the fact that turning the adjustment screw increased pressure up to a point and then pressure dropped which means at that point pressure was too high for the old seals and they leaked fluid (internally).

There is no actual issue with operating the boat though eventually it could leak so badly that it might not engage but once the clutches are engaged, very little oil volume is needed to keep them that way and the operating pressure is fine.

So, two Hydreco pump rebuild kits are enroute...

We'll expect to see detailed step by step instructions as you rebuild those pumps, complete with pictures.

Count on it! But it will be a few weeks before I get to it - we plan to use the boat for the next two weeks so no pump disassembly till after that.
