Does anyone know anything about this brand of radar? There is a deal on ebay that seems to good to be true. 8.4 inch display, 5 foot array including pedestal(motor). Cables etc.. included. The display is also gps chartplotter with the gps antenna. All this for 1499.00. Is it me or does this seem real cheap? Is this brand just very poor quality? If anyone has any experience with this brand, any info would be helpful. It is a lowrance. Thanks, Chris.

I think Lowrance offers great value with their line of electronics. I've had their aviation GPS as well as Marine units. Their service is great. They don't use proprietary databases.

Last year I bought a 9200C to do the Great Loop with the intent of putting a radar on it if my old Vigil crapped out (it's still working). I really like the GPS. The $100 NauticPath card is fantastic. That was all we used except for Canada and the rivers Chicago to Mobile where we used Navionics cards.

The price of the eBay deal looks very good. That's what I paid for just my Chartplotter a year ago. If the screen is big enough for you then go for it.

I sure hope this is a good radar as I just bought one yesterday. The deal was too good to pass on. I paid $1346 (Cascade GPS), including Fedex 2-day for the LRA5000and the 8200 chartplotter. Incidentally, I have no affilitation with Cascade but have purchased from them before.

Are you doing the install yourself? Please keep us informed on how ti goes...eventually I need to address the non-functional radar on Saraswati. Sadly, the only electronics on her that work right are the depth sounder and the LORAN! Need to replace: Auto-pilot, radar, and add GPS...

Thanks for all the input. Sounds like I wiil be buying it. I do plan on doing the installation myself. I'm going to look up cascade marine, do they have a website? Thanks, Chris.

I'm in the business, and in my opinion Lowrance makes a good product. Their tech support of older discontinued products however is not very good in my experience. Seems like a good deal though. I'd find out if it's new, used, or refurbished; or if there's any factory warranty.

I recently traveled this road.

You might want to check out the Lowrance website

Lowrance apparently has a new broadband radar and the model now for sale for $1,400 with chartplotter might be discontinued. According to the Lowrance website the broadband model was substantially better.

Chris,

You are correct...this is cheap. Sometimes you get what you pay for...sometimes you don't. For years Lowrance was the lower end equipment brand, however, the company was aquired by SIMRAD in 2006 and now is under the NAVICO line of marine equipment (which includes Lowrance and Eagle...low end...and other brands like Navman, Northstar, Simrad...their higher more expensive lines). This is not to say that it is inferior equipment (may all be the same technology marketed as different brands?) You can check it out at www.navico.com.
PS. I have no affiliation with any of these. Thought this might help.

Thanks guys. For the price I ended up buying it. Last year I bought a garmin 3210. My electonics are in a box(pod) that lifts up. I presently have an old furuno radar that is enormous. In order to fit the 3210 in the box I needed to buy a radar with a smaller display. This deal looked to good to pass up and it will fit in the pod. Thanks for all the input, this site is awsome. Chris.

Well the Lowance aviation handheld GPS's can't even come close to the Garmin units, in my opinion.
