  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
36' CONVERTIBLE-Series II (1983 - 1987)
When I removed my starter on my 1985 36 ft I traced this mess to loose clamps on back of turbo. Is this much oil from turbo to exshaut normal?

found website that pretty much explains everything. Thanks

That weird. I read about that hose clamp failing. I inspected mine a couple months ago and it was OK. Did you have any engine problems with the broken clamp? Seems like it was burning rich. Was it smoking?

Yes smokes white and blue on start up and does not clear up till it warms up. I cleaned air filters. I am worried I have to much oil. I like to keep it full. will let it go down a bit and not fill it so full. I am not
going thru a lot of oil so am thinking piston rings. After a good run it clears up.

Not sure if this holds true for your Cats but with every Detroit I've owned, if you overfill the oil it will burn or leak it until it reaches the ideal level. My engines use very little oil providing I don't overfill. I would be a bit concerned with blue smoke as that would be oil burning. Something worth further investigation.

Couple of questions come to mind and unfortunately the pics aren't clear enough on his phone: There is a transmission cooler above that stain. Are we sure it's not coming from that?

Also, blue /white smoke... Blue is lube oil, white is fuel. If you have bad injectors you will get wet stacking and smoke when cold. That can seem like oil when it mixes with the carbon in the exhaust system and forms a black liquid.

Started the boat saturday. 58 degrees and rain. Smoked blue. Ran it up to 180 degrees. not started prior to that for 3 months. I wished I would have taken a video. Nobody was around that morning. Smoked pretty good...
After half hour not too bad. Still blue, just much more subtle.
Going for 4 days at New Years. Will take pic and record some temperatures of any cold starts.
3208TA with 2000 hrs. She's 30 years old next year, was not used much when I bought her. Plugged air filters, Both heat exchangers plugged. I've done some work to the ccv, air filters, ect. Have 230 hours, will change at 300 and have oil checked out. Had analysts done at time of purchase came back ok. 1st Oder is a valve adj. then I'll go from there. Baby steps. What a hobby.....
