Great idea. I think we all could use these. I need 12 of them.

I wish someone could 3D print the round, clear, screw on plastic fuse holder covers for the dockside power outlets....

That might be possible, but I don't think they would end up less than $28.

I'm assuming they keep breaking? Maybe they should be something other than plastic?

Would there be interest in these in 316 SS ??

There is a plastic cover over the fuse. The clear cap screws into it.

Are they clear so you can see the fuse? Why do you need to replace them? i.e. do they break, wear out or rot in the sun?

Maybe 316ss?

The only thing you can see through them is the black plastic that screws onto the fuse housing. You cannot see the fuse through the plastic. Mine are not cracked, but they have turned yellow and or hazy. I was thinking about replacing them this year.

What do you think about making them out of stainless steel?

Before I started on that, I would check with Sam’s to make sure there’s not going to be any electrical issues. If not, then I put it out to the forum to see how many people would like them.

My (fuse covers) are still functional, but probably because I have never tried to remove one. They are hazed and cracked - look terrible. If stainless would work, that would be the ticket!!!

I think (haven't gone down to the boat) I'd probably need 12 also.

I bet just about every older Hat owner could use these....

Lens cap picture, looks like there is a little light behind the lens?

I'm guessing the little light lights up when there is power to the circuit.

If there was a stainless steel cap, you wouldn't be able to see the light, but does anyone care?

If I were able to make these from 316 SS and get a nice polish on them, what would be a reasonable price?

(the plastic ones are $28 each)

The light must be on newer models. 1979 just has the black plastic cap that covers the fuse.

Any chance you could post a picture?

Do you know if the replacement plastic caps are universal? i.e. fit either style?

I’ll be going to the boat tomorrow afternoon. I’ll add one.

I'm assuming we are talking about the caps that are 2" outside diameter correct?
That's what I have on my 53.

Exactly correct. The item in the center is a hard black plastic that’s screwed into the fuse slot.

Cap rendering

Stainless steel cap rendering.
Not so sure about the electrical integrity of this yet.
There is an o ring at that fits just inside the edge of this that "should" keep water out.

Theoretically if the entire inside of the cap got filled with water somehow this could become
"hot".
This is probably why the caps are plastic.

Soooo this may be an exercise in futility.

Anyone want to test one with a bucket of water and put your tongue on it for me??

***** UPDATE ***** A buddy of mine said he can 3d print these from plastic. He said he would make a couple samples.

Question what color? Clear or White?

Send me clear if you need a test for fade and yellowing

Just a few questions on replacement covers .

1) ABYC and other safety guidelines require a 2 pole for 240 volt and a 3 pole for 120/240 safety breaker. Fuses do not open more than 1 pole.

2) on vessels without isolation transformers an ELCI breaker is requires for safety.

3) Breakers reset if there is no issue. Will not reset if the condition remains while fuses take time to blow.

4) Creating a part for an electrical inlet could have unexpected consequences.

I know the new breakers aren't cheap but after replacing fuses and other protection on alot of boats and bringing them up to current code or better I have to wonder if I would try to replace a known weak point in the safety systems

I have been looking at the rotating motor mounts for small outboards on the dingy.
Simple pieces of aluminum (pipe and flats plate) currently selling for $500.
Perhaps you can come up with something better …
