Hatteras Model
43' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1978 - 1983)
Hi guys. I am trying to piece together the old Robertson AP200DL that came on my 43C. It appears the below decks parts are all good, and it is just the control head that has gone dead. I am looking for a replacement control head. Anyone have an old one laying around??? I checked Ebay and there are none available there. They are a couple of the AP200 units, but I really would like to find an AP200DL. I did a search here, and a few people have found someone to repair old units, but I fear the corrosion has killed mine beyond repair. Thanks.

I found a round plastic part about 4 " in Dia and 4-5" high that has Robertson on it in my 42' Chris Craft. The boat used to have this trye of auto pilot I was told by the PO. It looks like it is in good shape, it was kept out of the weather. I will bring it home today and look at the part numbers. I have no use for it. I wil let you know if it matches what you are looking for,

Thanks Joe,it sounds like you found the heading sensor. I am looking for the control head, the part that is at the helm with the controls on it. However, if I can use your part as a spare I may be interested anyway. If you can get the part/model number from it, I can see if it will work with my system. Alex

I may have some old parts from an upgrade I did a short time ago. Let me look.

Like thus? Mine always reads "compass error"... ideas?? ws

Bill,

Yours is a newer version than the one I have. Compass Error means you have a bad heading sensor, or bad connection with it.

I brought the Robertson part home from my boat this evening; It is A Robertson RFC250 Heading Sensor. # RFC250 PN. 20183513, SN. 250-5293. The PO left it in the boat after a new Raynav auto pilot was installed. I don't know if still works. You can have it if you want it.

UPDATE: I just want to publicly thank Tom Slane for setting me up with a replacement Autopilot head unit. He replied to this thread and got me all fixed up. For those of you that don't know who Tom Slane is, he is the son of the founder of Hatteras Yachts. He currently owns and operates Slane Marine in NC. Tom specializes in refurbishing Hatteras Yachts. He is an invaluable resource for all Hatteras owners, and I encourage everyone here to keep him in mind while looking for a yard to do a refit on your Hatt. Thanks Tom, and also the other HOF'ers that helped me out, or offered to.
