  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Our previous Hatteras, a 43DC that we had owned for 13 years was declared a total loss in a barn fire last spring. But that is history, now

We are looking for a 53 motor yacht or yacht fisher as our next boat. Might consider a 58, but that might be more than we want to care and feed.

Am aware of all of the boats on YW and are reviewing our options there and other sites. One we had been interested in just raised their price 45K+ after a recent survey. I wish them well.

We are not afraid of purchasing a boat that needs cosmetics. Will require a solid mechanical survey, good boat survey (no soft decks and similarly expensive shortcomings) and major equipment in operational order such as stabilizers, thrusters. Good electronics would be nice, but not required.

Area of interest...Great Lakes, east coat as far south as NC, unless it is an exceptional deal.

Hi tjshuler

So sad to hear about your loss.

Top Hatt and Tails could be a super solution for you. A clean 53 already in Ohio? That fact alone could save you thousands. And he's been thinking of selling for a while... You need to seriously check his boat out! If it's as nice as he claims, and the price is fair, it could be the best "value" at the end of the day.

The care and feeding of a 53 vs a 58 is no different. Most are variations of the same hull with the same systems. Same appliances. Same everything. Your average daily ownership cost will about double that of your 43 over the long term.

Please don't make the mistake of kidding yourself. There is no such thing as "just needs cosmetics"!!! A new paint job alone will cost between $35,000 and $65,000.

The "crème puff" for a fair price is the only "bargain".

What year are you looking for?

Probably looking for mid 70's or newer. However, if in good shape, older ones would be considered.

Our boat is not listed but we are thinking about making plans for a sale. It is L'Abri a 1984 Hatteras ED 53 foot. The hull ID is HATCN712M84A. It has Detroit Diesel 8V71TI engines and a 20KW Kohler Generator. It has been in fresh water for many years and is now located in North Alabama on the Tennessee River. We have owned it since 2007 and the previous owner was a good friend who maintained the boat as we have. If interested leg me know. You can send a private message.

I have a 1985 Hatteras, ED , 53' for sale at $160,000 at Virginia Beach if interested. Name is SUTOI II. Larry Valentine, 757 288 6732

Just moved from Toledo Ohio to Florida, was thinking of bringing my 1983, 53 ED down to Florida but the cost could be prohibit at this time for me. If I could find one in very good condition in Florida will sell mine in Ohio, located in Lake Erie. Better yet trade up.
