Hatteras Model
Not Currently A Hatteras Owner
Hi,
I"m new to this forum, what a great way to learn about Hatts.

Looking for an economical 45-50 S/F for live-aboard and fish.

Range: 100,000+

Thanks,

Cliff

I don't think you'll find a decent Hatteras in this range. I think you'll have to start at a minimum 150k to get a good 45C and a lot more for a 50c.To buy a 45-50 sportfish in this price range it will probably have to be at least 20 years old. Really narrows down the choice because not that many companies were building fiberglass sportfishing boats 20 years ago. You may look at the 48' Pacemaker. These are decent boats though certainly not a Hatteras. There is one on "TheHullTruth" site for sale. Another good quality boat that has been around awhile is the 42 Post. Not a bad boat at all but again, no Hatt. With any of these boats be very careful of the condition. At that price there could be a lot of things that need to be updated to have a reliable boat. These things can add up quickly to the point you've spent as much as you would have to buy a ready to go boat to begin with. Don't fall into the trap of believeing you can buy junk and fix it up cheap. Even the professionals in the business can't make the numbers work on this. Buy the best boat you can even if you have to go down in size a little.

Thanks for the advice.. quite sound

Cliff

look on yachtworld for a series 1 (1968 - 1975) 45C .... I think that you will find a few in the 100k and less range. They may need a little work, but as a live-aboard .... you're right there all of the time.

thanks.. have a couple in mind.

There is a boat that has been advertised here and also on YW that is an older 45C that looks like it might be a good deal...if it is still for sale.

If you can stretch to $189k, I know where a fine example of a 53C is located in FTL. I viewed it when I went to FLIBS and had the pleasure of meeting her owners Al and Bobbie Scarborough. Al is a member of this forum.

He has done an outstanding job of maintaining and updating this beautiful boat. If I were not already a two Hatt owner, I'd seriously consider this one myself. He has it listed with a broker, but I believe he has an owner's exclusion that would save you the extra in commissions.

PM me if you have an interest, and I'll put you in touch with him. Believe me, this one will not disappoint even the pickiest of buyers.
