WOW.... and pictures usually make things look better. I'd hate to see it in real life.

Yea Folks. So Sad. Essentially worthless. Running or not.

I would not take this boat if they gave it to me with $65K in an envelope to take with me.

Jim, I would.......... Just take out all the fuel and oils and tow it out to the legal limit and sink it. Go back home and spend the 65K on something else...

Once someone's dream now someone's nightmare. Such a shame.

It IS sad. One day a long time ago, this was a new Hatteras 53MY and someone's pride and joy. Not to mention the people who built her. I wish I had the wherewithal to rescue her.

Dr. Jim - Living proof that some people should not hang around boat junkyards and feral cat rescue organizations.

Oh, you are so right. Although I've gotten a little better on it, but I still want to rescue every animal I see, and every car and every boat. It's a terrible disease, let me tell you.

crap.....why is that tempting?

Oh you SICK man.

Free, MAYBE.

Actually..... in death, like the donor card in my wallet, this boat could serve. There are a lot of parts pieces in there people need, some of which are very hard to get.

But then in the end you're left with quite a few tons of polyester....... that's a problem. Artificial reef? Tax deduction?

Just thinking out loud.....

First of all Oscarvan, The look of overall filth and the junk strewn everywhere on board does not seem to indicate an owner with tax issues! Or up to date Insurance for that matter! A lot of donation places won't accept a boat that doesn't arrive at their dock under it's own power anymore. The extensive water damage and mold everywhere makes her a human health hazard...including every remaining component. You can see where the waterline came up to in the forward head, which means the water came up over the generator and at least fried the washer/dryer too. Not even if the owner gave YOU $65,000 to haul it away!

I empathize with Jim Rosenthall, as I too would love to rescue every boat. But c'mon guys...there are lots of boats out there that are so horrible it isn't worth trying.

Unfortunately, the only option for this owner is to strip her usable parts (if there are any), and scuttle her. It's so sad.

Offer them $10K, finish the gutting process then turn it into a Bahamian freighter or mail boat. Sad to see a once proud, glamorous, head turner princess on her death bed but that old girl still has some life left.

Please don't overlook several beneficial features of this motor yacht. The bedroom air conditioner is well positioned to keep the sound system cool. The aft deck has an abundance of hardwood ready for the repair process. Exposure to the inner compartments will keep your immune system working in tip-top shape. And those pesky inlaws aren't likely to bother you with week long stays.

best is to attempt to limit the efforts to a single family of boats...leave the Bertrams and Carvers for others...

Yup I have that disease. Clean her up and put in some new Cats. A little paint. I wish I was younger and could do it again.
