BTW, your (predictable) China dig is (as usual) uninformed. Even Victron makes stuff in the Far East. It all depends on the manufacturer and the specs. Yes, there are a lot of Chinese made sub par knock offs. There are also a lot of quality products made there. (This does NOT speak to the politics of all that, for which these pages are NOT the place.......)
So… this morning I hit the starter button on the port MTU to check for leak after a hydraulic repair… starter spins but doesn’t engage. MTU mechanics were coming anyway to prepare for sea trial this afternoon. They pull the starter to replace it with the spare and… just below the MTU part number is a little sticker saying …. You guessed it… “made in china”
That starter failed after only 15 months…. It was replaced when we rebuilt that 16V2000 last year.
This is not a cheap knock off. It is a Prestolite starter made for and sold by MTU… not cheap!
Always a good idea to have a spare starter!
