  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
52' CONVERTIBLE (1983 - 1990)
i have a 52c and it's time to replace the life raft. would you guys prefer to mount the life raft on the bow next to the dingy or keep it in a movable bag placed in the cockpit for extended cruises? If the boat starts sinking i am not sure whether it would be easier to deploy from the cockpit or the bow especially if it's in rough seas....

Also what is the proper protocol to deploy? do you toss the life raft over board then pull the cord or can you inflate the raft on board then toss the inflated raft over? Looking into a 6-8 man Revere off shore life raft...

My fear isn't sinking it's fire

Sinking gives you time to get ready... fire doesn't.

Look at any picture of burning boats and the last place with no fire or smoke is the bow, never the stern

Really?

How about 2 rafts. 1 on the bow and one eastern.

Obviously a fire gets to a point where the whole boat is engulfed with flames and smoke but usually when a boat is drifting the bow is the last spot you can be on. Machinery is usually aft ad the source of the fire.

If possible not a bad idea to release the anchor either so the bow remains pointed upwind Even in deep water the drag of the chain will keep the bow clear a bit longer

And in most sinking, bow collision excepted, boats go down by the stern a that's where most openings and vulnerabilities are.

Hell, I have to leave the dock first for any of those scenarios to happen!!!
