Libya and fuel prices

We - the US of A - are the world's third largest oil producer. Libya's not even in the top 10.

I don't understand any of this oil stuff...

well, the price was still $3.20 a gallon.............but they add louisiana tax which is4%, so it was $3.33 a gallon

Well it's $3.40 for Gas @ the pumps. Diesel is $3.65 in Morehead City, North Carolina. I'm not sure if I'm wanting to know what the fuel prices is at the docks...

Bottoms Up!!

Just filled the diesel truck today. The raised it from 3.65 to 3.75 while I was pumping!

Regular unleaded jumped 20 cents per gallon here today @ $3.18.

price at a commercial supplier (not a marina or fuel dock, this is by truck)in the new orleans area was $3.15 yesterday, this morning it is $3.20, i will be picking up 125 gallons this afternoon, (hope it doesn't go up before i get there) i will post what i got it for either tonight or tomorrow.
Bill we topped our boat off this morning at Dog River Marina at $3.40.I was expecting $3.75.Robby

Dave..Just saw this thread. You took 1400 gallons? That, I assume, means you only had 150 gallons left in a 60C? That's cutting it pretty close. You must have been putting some serious mileage on the boat. On this trip to Mexico we always figure fuel consumption for a leg of the trip and factor in a 20% reserve. That's very conservative but with the huge fuel return, I don't want to get caught out in the middle of nowhere down here running low on fuel. I usually will run off of the forward tank and use 300 gallons then switch to the aft tank. The longest run we have made so far was 36hrs. and used about 700 gallons. By the way, fuel in Mexico, so far, has averaged about $3.25 per gallon. Ross

It's pretty simple: Every barrel is priced at what it costs to get the LAST one you want to burn.

Libyan crude is both very sweet (low sulfer) and low-viscosity. It is thus very easy (relatively cheaper, requiring lower heat and pressure in the refineries) to refine. While the volume they pump can be replaced reasonably easily (so long as nothing ELSE goes offline at the same time) the quality is a different matter. This drives the "last barrel" price higher, and as a result all barrels cost more.

If Saudi Arabia gets destabilized all of this changes overnight.

$3.50 for reg in CT today. That's up 30 cents in 2 weeks.

I'm thinking things will settle soon. Libya is fast falling to the rebels and Saudi gov't are proactively making concessions to appease the masses.

But who knows if these "masses" in the middle east will react favorably toward the US once/if they get in power.

It seems to me rather typical - everybody's upset and wants the gov overthrown but the protesters who may actually overthrow the gov don't have the faintest idea of how to actually govern a country. This just leaves it wide open to any group organized enough to take over.

I am sure our State dept and CIA will be happy to assist these newbies in the setting up of a government.

US Gallons in Toronto, ON with Canadian Dollars (a double whammy!). Feel better?

Yeah, she was pretty empty, she holds 1600 total.
I was thinking of installing a thruster and wanted her as light as possible for the haul out, so I ran the fuel very low on local trips. Then I changed my haul out plans for later in the year, and thought I better fill her up before the fuel price went through the roof. This fuel should get me through at least until summer fishing season starts, I'm too busy racing till then to do any long trips.
I paid $4.14...... Ouch!

Canadians are paying way more for fuel but check this out..By the way, Libya doesn't even register on the richter scale!

Yeah, good article. The large gap in price differences for Canadian products between US consumers and Canadian consumers, extends to all products such as cigarettes, liquor, petrochemical products, forestry products, hydro, etc.
The main contributor that creates this price gap comes from our socialist gov't (taxes) but Obama is working hard to narrow it, at all of our expense of course ;)
