OK,
When I fill the tank up, I get fresh water leaking down the port side top of tank.
This is encased with a wood frame which appears to be cut out to either remove the tank or at least inspect it. I cant see exactly where the water is leaking. A friend said to pressure test the tank for confirmation, and just don't fill it to the top any more. Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how did you resolve it?

Can you see the tank to inspect it? one of my tanks has a small crack in the top and I have not fixed it yet. But I can see and access wehre it is coming from. My other tank has a crack that I need to remove a floor panel to repair. It was a repair before that did not hold.

Look around with a flashligt. I bet you may find it if you can see a good part of your tank. then you know what you have to do to repar it.

My 45c is an '84, and I've had a very small amount of leak coming out only when the tank is 100% filled to overflowing out of the deck fill. As soon as it's drawn down even a gallon, it ceases. It looks to me like it's coming from the pressure pump's main inlet fitting. In fact, these days I don't usually see it any more. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're getting a substantial amount of water.

George,

Since the entire tank is made of fiberglass, unless it was somehow punctured, the leak may be coming from the flange around the gauge on the top of the tank. I had to re-epoxy the flange on my water tank after replacing the gauge due to it leaking when the tank was filled.

Thanks guys,
I can only see water leak down between the top left side and the stringer in the corner. I checked the flange as that is easlily seen but don't see that as being the problem. I suppose I'll stick to the not fill it up, but now I'll have to replace my guage as that crapped on me 2 seasons ago. I'm concerned where water may be going and getting trapped, only to cause another problem elsewhere.
Have any of you removed the stairs and flooring going down to the galley to see the front top side of the tank?

That sounds like a mess - I didn't have trouble with it when I owned mine.... there definitely isn't any good access to the tank!

I’ve got a 45C, but it’s a ’72 model and I don’t know if it’s set up like yours. On mine, I found water on top of the water tank coming from a loose shower supply line above it.

To find where the water was coming from I used a fan to dry the top of the tank and the adjacent area. When dry and water started collecting, I following the water trail back to the drip site on the tank. The supply line that was leaking was not directly above the tank. The water from the supply line dripped to the toilet deck, flowed to a deck cutout for the pipes, down along a short length of hose in the bilge to its low point then dripped on the tank.

You’re leak, if from above, could be located a distance away from where it collects. If you can’t find where you’re tank is leaking, perhaps it’s coming from somewhere else.

Good luck.

I still have a leak on my port side under the water tank. After muck work I came up with the following formula:

1- Empty completely the water tank
2- Dry all areas under the floor.
3- if no water in a few days you will at least know it is fresh water
4-Cut all main feed pipes from the water pump
5- Insert valves so you can shut off one line at a time hot and cold.
6-Fill water tank with 25% of blue dyed water and make sure your fresh water pump is off and all the valves are closed.
7-See if any water leaks, and it is blue you know its fresh water and it is coming from the tank.
8-If no water is present turn on fresh water tank and leave all valves closed
9-If still no water open one valve at a time until you hear the fresh water pump running with no faucets of toilets and showers running.

If you hear the water pump running you found at least what line the leak is on finding the leak is a true pain in the a--.

I know and I still cant find the leak. see my threads on water leaks
Hope this helps Tom Gina Marie
