  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Has anyone ever changed the hose from the shower (in this case guest shower) to the shower sump? I was winterizing my 53MY and noticed the pink in the aft bilge area after pouring pink into the shower drain. I had dried out the bilge before I started. So I'm thinking the hose has a crack in it somewhere.
Based on the routing of this hose, it looks like b---- of a job. Any advice would be appreciated.

Well, we've got different models...by guest shower, I'm thinking the one in the hall, and the shower sump has the access in front of the washer/dryer? In mine, I was able to access the shower drain from the hall closet access panel to the bilge area where the thru hull strainers are located.

My guest shower is next to the aft stateroom shower. In fact the showers are back to back and both drain hoses run right to the back into the shower sump under the queen bed. The routing doesn't look accessible at all, unless there is a secret access that I'm missing.

Our 1978 53MY had that setup. The mid-stateroom shower drain went to the sump under the aft stateroom bed via a hose that ran down a channel under the hall floor. Our hall floor had small access hatch panels in the floor where you could get at the hoses. The channel was right on the SB side of the hall floor next to the wall. The problem is getting to the bottom of the shower drain connection where the hose is attached, because the drain can not be lifted from the shower base without getting underneath to access it. I believe the hose could also run along the SB side of the hull where the aft stateroom shower drain goes if you could get to the mid-stateroom shower drain to attach the hose.

The most difficult part MAY be (as noted) removing the hose from the shower drain.

I say "MAY" because it will depend on whether you have access panels in the passageway floor that will allow you to get to the drain pipe. Our 53 does but it seems like others do not. Our panels appear to be oem but it is possible that the PO cut them. If they are not there, you will have to cut access panels because you won't be able to get to the drain/remove the hose from it otherwise.

There are other access panels in the floor which will allow you to get to the sump hoses where they are attached. Of course you will have to pull up the carpeting to expose them. If you haven't done that previously, you may be surprised at how many panels there are! I counted 14 of them in the passageway/guest/master staterooms. :)

Thanks all
Looks like there is no magic bullet, so I guess I'll have to grab the bull by the horns and start tearing things apart.
