  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
43' DOUBLE CABIN (1970 - 1984)
Our boat is fairly leak free however we have developed a fairly large leak OVER the forward starboard port light in the master. It only leaks during rain.

It is getting the headliner wet and water is accumulating on top of the valance. This area is hard to access. I do not have any water inside forward (no evidence in head or medicine cabinet).

The post holding the end of the railing has a rust ring around the base so I am suspecting it (it's about 10" forward of where the leak is showing up.

Are the nuts glassed in for these? What do you use to seal these? Can I loosen it up and try a reseal?

Thanks for the help!

I would check rub rail screws first. Check near leak and forward 10 to 12 feet.

How bout the windows?

The stantion is bolted to a aluminum plate glassed to the deck , no nuts the plate is taped.

Thanks to everyone!

Pate,
I am sure it is not the window as water is coming in above the window by about 6 inches.

I will re seal the rub rail as well

What is the best material to use? 4200? silicone?

Thanks Again:cool:

4200 would be fine. You will be able to get it apart if you need to, and it will seal if you can clean the mating surfaces and get a decent application of it in there. 5200 isn't needed and will drive you nuts if you have to get it apart. Silicone won't do the job for you.

This is what I have been using. A commercial grade polyuthethane caulk that stays flexible for years. Its made from BASF, so its not well known in the marina industry for some reason but it cost me $ 4.95/tube and works great. It comes in off white which matches the Hatteras white to a tee. I bought it locally in columbia, SC .
