It’s acryoand will not turn yellow. I used SEM 25 plus years ago on my Chris Craft. It still looks new. The yellow on the rag was probably nicotine from people smoking in the boat. The nice thing about acrylic is it covers up and hides all the nicotine stains.

Was it you who said you used to sell SEM in a shop? There's so many products that go with this paint, some expertise could do better than just buying a bottle of paint as I did.

For example, there's a little bottle of "Plastic Adhesion Promoter" and several other additives. Someone who actually knows what he's doing could be quite helpful with this. If the paint was thinner, I might have even used a 12" roller and more paint...and not had to worry about roller lines as much.

Here's their thinner:

You can add a "duller." So, I'd assume you can add gloss? Anyway, we'll figure out exactly how to do this when the last site member is finished.

Great work.

It looks like we can only buy 1oz "flat white" bottles here in Australia. How much did you need to do the area over the genset room? I'd like to try it on a bathroom headliner. If your finish flat white or gloss?

It looks about flat to me, but it's satiny at a different angle.

I think my bottle was 16 oz. I'm not sure where the 32oz came from. I'm always multi-tasking and double-checking my details is definitely warranted.

1 oz doesn't seem like enough because you'll need that much to wet the roller. You'd think someone would mail you a 16oz bottle if you paid a couple bucks more.

I bet you can get SEM down there? That is the proven product. I just used this shoe paint because it was so much cheaper. The web site is all about shoes! https://angelusdirect.com/

Just painted the first coat with this stuff after the market close tonight. It took about 90 minutes to do the entire salon and galley area. (taped it off last week) I'll do a 2nd coat in half that time. I used a standard 6" roller with a "smooth surface" felt. Nope - you don't have to worry about clogging all the little holes if you have too much paint on the roller, because the roller pulls the paint right back out of 'em.

I started too timidly and stingy with the paint. So, the shading wasn't quite even and I'll have to do a 2nd coat. By the time I got to the last couple headliner panels, I was putting more paint on the roller and it looks good with a single coat.

You can tell this stuff will never peel off just by touching it when dry. It's so flexible...doesn't really even feel like there's paint on it. You won't believe how dark and dingy the old headliner is until you roll some flat, white paint onto it. I bet it'll smell fresher in there, too.

Too dark to snap a pic - will get one in the next couple days.

Interested in how this is holding up now that's it's a year later??

Looking for a solution to my forward state room...

I painted my severely water stained salon headliner about 3 years ago using SEM aerosol cans. Worked well and you can barely see the stained areas if you know where they were. I remember using one can as a prep and the other as the finish. I would recommend this route over replacement if you don't want a major project

I PM'ed with JD about how the headliner still looks really good. It's hasn't yellowed or stiffened - looks exactly like when I painted it a year ago and is still nice and supple. My bigget worry was the paint would make the headliner stiff and make cracking or tearing likely - but it has stayed nice and soft with a generous coat.

So, the tennis shoe acrylic paint worked-out alright at one-forth the price. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile!
