  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
53' MOTOR YACHT (1969 - 1988)
Has anyone added a wider platform on a 53/58 motor yacht? I want to go at least a foot or 18”.
then I will replace the straight ladder with a nice angled ladder available on Amazon. If you have where did you get the platform and were you able to use the original brackets on the boat. Any info would be appreciated. Leaving Chester Ct a week from Sat bound for Ft Pierce.

We added a 4 foot platform made by Swim Platforms Inc. in Phoniex Ariz. ABE99C21-04C0-4047-8A14-D5DEE842986D.webp

If you look at one of my old posts you can see what I did with my platform

In answer to your question - yes there are many examples of Hatteras having wider swim platforms that work very well. My 40 DC has a five foot wide swim platform that works extremely well that also contains 2 bins for garbage / recycling. Although I still have a ladder there are examples with spiral stairs and built in fiberglass stairs that work very well. The 5 foot swim platform on my boat allows me to carry 2 - 15 foot kayaks (on on top of the other). I will send a number of photos of extended swim platforms from boats in my marina later today. 5 feet wide seems to be the sweet spot for size and stability.

I see on a earlier post from Gary that he used the existing brackets with upside down u-channels
to support the longer platform. Great idea!! Getting a price on a platform from Butler Marine Products in Pa. We will see. Any other places recommended ?

You might look at Beachcomber Fiberglass in Stuart, FL. Beachfiber.com. I think the PO used them for our extended swim platform on our Viking 44 Motor Yacht. Much better than the original Viking platform.
