  1. OWNER - I own a Hatteras Yacht
Hatteras Model
45' CONVERTIBLE-Series I (1968 - 1975)
I have 45C360 a 1970 convertible. My ladder (original) has developed a problem. The second rail, which is the handrail part is seperating (has seperated) from the other rail, which holds the actual steps.
There appear to be white plastic pieces inside of the stainless tubes that the screws hold into. I believe that mine have deteriorated and are letting go. Trying to tighten the screws has done nothing. Anyone else had this problem ?

On our 1975 43DC we had the handrail on the ladder that would always loosen up. It was not welded as later models, but instead had the chromed fittings with screws in it. We ended up retapping the holes and it held until the boat was sold. If that isn't an option, the next step would be to thru-bolt them.

Can it be welded? Its a permanent solution.

Prior to us purchasing our boat, somone had the same problem. They drilled through the connectors and through bolted the fittings.

I had a similar problem and re-tapped the hole for a larger screw. It secured the rail but it still wobbled. That problem was corrected by inserting some stainless steel shim stock between the rail and the fitting. It has been tight for over a year now.
