Anybody that has a boat larger then 50 foot have recent experence anchoring in Key West?
Looks like they shut down the Fleming Key area were years ago they had anchoring bouys.
Garrison Bight looks great buy they wont take a boat larger than 50.
The anchrage off Westeria island (i think its called) looks shalow.

You can still anchor to the west of Fleming, but I hear that the Navy is enforcing the buffer zone more stringently. Bigger issue is just finding a spot with enough swing room. We did it once for a couple of days, off the southwest corner of FK, wasn't a lot of fun due to crowding and in peak season. I ended up just taxi-ing the crew over to the very jammed dinghy dock and just explored in the Whaler. I enjoyed visiting KW much more by merely taking the bus or driving down from Marathon when we had our cars. To me, the only reason to anchor there is when you are on your way out to the Dry Tortugas.

X2 on taking the bus from marathon. We were on the way down there and the locals at boot key said it's too much current and waking and not worth the effort. We liked boot key a ended up taking a bus from marathon for $5.00. I guess we took the locals advise. We did se lots of boats anchored off Fleming key though. They charge you a bunch just to dinghy in and tie up for a few hours. The marinas are insanely over priced. Not my cup of tea.
