Wondering what you guys do. Not for my boat but for my new RV. Other one sank twice this year. Totalled. New one comes with an ice maker. We typically just use water to brush teeth and wash dishes. If we want to use ice maker we have to trust it it is safe. So for those that use tanks for drinking what is the best way to treat?

I usually put bleach in when I fill the tanks. I use the ice on my boat that's been treated like this and its fine.

I bleach my RV tank once per year. Then flush it all out.

We drink the water out of that tank and the boat tank. Never an issue but we don't use dockside water connection, just tank water.

The key is to use the tank regularly. In most cases city water has some Chlorine so there is no need to add any to the tank. And filters obviously, carbon/charcoal at the pump and possibly an UV light sanitizer

I installed an Aquapure AP200 filter on each of the 3 cold water lines that I drink from. Head faucet, galley faucet, and wet bar faucet, which also feeds my ice maker. They are not expensive, about $150 each. Every spring, I flush all the nontox antifreeze from the system, and add gallon or so of chlorine to whatever remains in my 165 gal water tank. Its usually half full or so. I take it for ride to slosh it around some and then run each of the cold water lines until I smell the strong chlorinated water coming out. I then let that sit for a day in the lines. The following day I run the tank dry, flushing out each of the lines as I do. I then add 10 or 20 gallons of fresh water to the tank and run it dry, repeating this until I don't smell the chlorine any more. At this point, I replace each of the charcoal filter elements in the Aquapure filters. I would challenge anyone to do a taste test comparing my water with a glass of Poland Spring water. I usually replace the galley sink element mid season, as I use more water from that faucet than the wet bar, icemaker, or head faucet. I would expect similar results in an RV.

I use these filters: https://www.aquapurefilters.com/pro...king-water-system?_pos=2&_sid=cf1ce6d12&_ss=r

Edit: And, I don't want a filter at my pump. I see no need to filter the hot water, as its only used for showering and doing the dishes or cleaning. No need to filter that.

Thanks for info. Gotta process this. First thing is to make sure the ice maker is fed water and can make ice. After all it’s an RV and they are all POS boxes. Wife wanted to replace. I would prefer to save the $ for the boat. But you all know how that goes.😁
