Re: “Keel walking” on series 1 convertibles

Another good video going over Hatteras tech and construction. I can't believe he's out on the swim platform underway like that, though.

Re: “Keel walking” on series 1 convertibles

Glad to see this thread.

I am seriously considering selling my 38' Hat. Captains Lady. It is killing me because I have put 25 years of blood, sweat and tears in her. The issue, re power. The real cost? She has 8V53's in her and I want to put Cummings 6bTA 370 hps. I want to paint the engine room, pull out the old copper lines for new lines for my steering, water etc. Wiring...you get it. I am hearing costs of $150K.

Just does not make sense...Anybody re power lately and can give me a more accurate number, or id that about right?

If you pay someone, that sounds about right with QSBs. I I think a bit less with mechanical 370s. If you do the work yourself you could probably spend about half of that.

Re: “Keel walking” on series 1 convertibles

I quoted a 42 ocean repower with 2 fly by wire stations and 6.7 550 hp NEW engines and transmissions for about $130k that's with using the existing running gear.

Add in some clean up and engine room painting and it could be about $150k but that's much newer and higher cost engines.

The youtube link from the beginning of the post is no longer working.
Does anyone have an update to the video?
Thanks

I'm doing everything you want to do in your boat and much more on my 34. All labor has been done by me and I went with Yanmar engines (used but rebuilt to 0 hours). When finished, I'll be between 80k-90k
